Was pulling out of my driveway tonight to go to the store. Had to stop for a car coming up the street. To my surprise was a really neat T-Bucket hot rod going up the street.:D:cool: I was so shocked at seeing it that I didn't see who was driving it. However, it had to be someone who lives in my neighborhood or he wouldn't be on my street. It's only about 2 blocks long and dead ends on both ends into other streets. We don't have any drive through traffic on our street. Going to have to start riding around the neighborhood to see where that T Bucket lives.

Hey Norm,

The guy may have just been visiting. You could get lost searching for him.

I thought about that. However, I know everyone on my street. Also most of the people on the cross streets on both ends. (lived here since 1973). No one ever drives up or down our street except people who live here and their visitors because our street doesn't go anywhere. Plus, I also know just about all the cars that visit other people on the street. Have come up with a better solution than driving around looking for it though. We have a very efficient Block Watch group in the neighborhood. It's rated as the best in the city. About 75% of the people are members out of about the 500 houses in the neighborhood. You can't drop a paper clip without someone seeing you do it around here. Our group is so strong in the city that even city hall pays attention when we ask for something. On a major street outside our subdivison is a railroad track. That track has been bad for several years and all they did was keep patching it. We finally complained so much to the city and the railroad that the street is being shut down this weekend to completely rebuild that track crossing. We also demanded that they stop the dust from a nearby rock crushing plant. We also have people attending monthly city zoning planning meetings to make sure nothing comes in around us that we don't want. Our block watch leaders talk to our alderman so much that the alderman put us on speed dial.:D They know we'll keep the pressure on until we get what we want. I'll just put up a post on our Block Watch forum and ask where it belongs. Someone will probably know, or maybe the owner will step forward.:D What car guy would not be happy to receive a compliment on his car.:)

Like I said, you can't drop a paper clip in my neighborhood without someone seeing you. Just found out where the T-Bucket lives.:) He lives one block south of me. If I cut through my neighbors yard behind me, I can walk straight to where the T-Bucket resides. It's a straight shot from my house on the other side of the street. The neighbor behind me said he watched them unload it off the trailer tonight across the street from him. I knew that car had to be new to the neighborhood. My street is too hard to find for someone not familiar with the area, even with the GPS gadgets.

Only took about 10 or 15 minutes to get that reply from the neighbor on the block watch group.:D

Is it the stolen one from out west earlier in the month or late last month??

I am GLAD I havent dropped a paper clip in YUR neighborhood!!

Have no idea. Haven't talked to the guy yet. Thinking about going over to his house tonight or tomorrow night to check it out. He has a Mustang for sale in the front of his house, so that's a good excuse to stop and check out the T Bucket. I'll drive my coupe to do it. I wasn't aware that there was a stolen T Bucket floating around.

Actually, all those eyes watching in the neighborhood is a good thing. It's rare we have any trouble around here. It's also nice in case someone gets hurt. For example. Back in June my wife was out for her daily walk. She was a good half mile away from the house when she stepped off the edge of the blacktop road, twisted her ankle and fell. The guy who lived in the house next door to where she fell was home and saw her and helped her up. Then he noticed her head had a cut in it and was bleeding. He then went into the house, got a towel and gave it to her. Then he ask where she lived and if someone was home at the time to help her. She told him yes and he got his pickup and brought her home. Him and his wife wanted to make sure she was going to be ok. When I took her to the doctor right away she had to have several stitches over her eye, had a big knot on her head and bruised elbow and swollen ankle. Took about a month to get full use of her elbow and arm again. So...........it's nice to know there are people watching every move on the street around them.:) I keep telling her to carry her cell phone on her walks, but..........she doesn't do it.

By the way. We don't have any speeders in the neighborhood either. We have lots of police officers living in the neighborhood, but few who actually ever patrol the area on duty. However, if you speed in our neighborhood you can expect a visit from the police at your door a day or two later. You can bet money that someone in the neighborhood got your license plate number and reported it.

Whoa Norm...drive the coupe over....have you consulted Yahoo maps for this adventure?

Old cars are a good way to meet your new neighbor..at least you have a neighbor with an old car...

Tim,

We have several around the neighborhood that I know of. Even another 48 Plymouth Club Coupe. That thing looks really bad though and the guy never works on it. Not even sure it would make the few blocks to my house. We're having a neighborhood picnic the 24th of August that the Block Watch group is putting on. I'm going to try and organize a mini car show to go along with the picnic. Just thought of that last night though and not sure if I can get things going that fast on the idea. Would be neat though. One guy a couple of blocks from me restores old tractors, trucks and fire trucks. Always has some project going on in that garage. Never met the guy though. There is also a younger guy on the corner down the street who has a real nice Nova. They are always working on muscle cars there. And, there are a few others. This would make a good opportunity for us all to meet and get together.

Even with all these people, you won't normally see any of them when riding around the neighborhood, unless you live here. They are all kept in the garage, except for that guy who has the mess of a 48 Plymouth Coupe. That one is always sitting out rusting away. Think it even had a flat tire the last couple of times I drove by.

When I lived in SC there were a number of folks close by with old cars..miss my buddy Greg even though he was a die hard chebbie fan, we always had something to talk about...number of guys I work with are into old cars..as in..I'd like to have this or I ought to buy that..only if I had such and such...always kicking someone else's tires..gets to be a drag after a bit...which is faster, a Nova without an engine or a Mustang without a transmission...

If he is a new owner, and it comes up in conversation, you might mention the National T-Bucket Alliance (http://www.nationaltbucketalliance.com/). They have a local chapter in that area. Bucket-folk are really good people.

I don't know about that. I parked next to one recently at a cruise and he was a real jerk:D Made a bunch of passive-agressive comments about my car, Plymouths in general, six cylinders in general, Mopar sixes, etc etc. When I asked him nicely if his bucket was a real Ford, he walked away grumbling. Guess it wasn't. Takes all kinds.

The car stolen from a Hamber in Calif was a black 32 Ford roadster with loud pipes and some chrome stacks on the carbs. The car had a name....but I can't think of it at the moment....maybe "Thunderrod". It went north, they think, from where stolen. There was a big sticky note thread on the thing several days ago....many guys keeping on the lookout for the car. They think the thief was latino. Your neighbor's new ride may not resemble that one, but you never can tell.

That's not the same Bucket. This one has squared back, probably made out of a pickup.

Seeing that T Bucket and asking about it on the Block Watch group was a good thing though. I also mentioned it would be nice to have a mini car show of the old cars in the neighborhood at the same time as the neighborhood picnic on the 25th of August. People are going for it, AND, someone else just sent me an email saying they also had an old car tucked in the garage and loves the idea too. Doesn't give much time to pull things together, but I'll make up some quick fliers and put them on peoples mail boxes. Not everyone in the watch group has computers so can't rely on them seeing it on the forum. Really wasn't looking forward to the picnic before, buy now it could be a fun day, if I can pull it off.:D

For The Other Norm,

Don't let those Ford guys get to ya. I have several friends in the local Ford V8 Club. When I first bought my Plymouth all I heard was, I should have bought a Ford. Then started out with the comments. Well, I'm a Kentucky boy, and I can give out more than anyone can give me. They stopped with the comments real fast.:D So, throw it right back at em.;) I wouldn't even be afraid to have a banter duel with old Jay Leno. Not on TV though, don't want 5 minutes of fame.;)

It shouldn't take a whole lot of organizing.....just figger where they need to park perhaps. I bet the others will enjoy seeing the cars and talking about them.

On the 4th of July, we took the convert to a picnic and fireworks display at our Elks lodge. Was the only old car there, of course. Then two or three other members said had they thought of it, they would have brought their old cars. So I said that maybe we should have our own mini show next July....guess I will promote the idea next year in the news letter. One member, in the Corvette club, says he can probably rustle up 6 or 8 of his friends to bring their Vettes.

Tim;

I believe Norms Coupe is equipped with a device that kills the engine if it leaves the driveway. Either that or it does not run at all. Perhaps we can contact his neighborhood watch group and find out if it does run or if they actually know if it exists.

I dont think Norm uses yahoo maps. They do not show where the moss is located on the trees in the neighborhood.:D

hey all new to this group.done many cars over the years. this 48 coupe is the oldest and most original i have ever owned. it needs complete resto. mostly rust in floors and quarters. best i can tell been painted one time. interior all original (and rotted from years) only missing a few knobs and need to replace a few pieces of chrome. lot of work to do.

Don, I don't think this picture was taken in my driveway. Tony C took it when I met him for lunch while here. He can vouch for it running, he followed me out of the parking lot. I also assume Ed Gross may have seen it about 40 miles from my house in Waukesha at the Good Guys show once or twice.:P

As for the yahoo map. Don't suggest you follow the map or driving instructions to get to my house. It won't be where they claim it to be, and no I did not move.:D

Sorry to hear that. I guess I wasn't specific enough. What I should have said is that *NTBA* bucket-folk are really good people. I haven't met everyone in the group, but the vast vast majority of NTBA folk love all kinds of old cars and are really positive about everything. The only time they get testy is when you refer to a bucket as a "kit" car.

BTW, mine is a real Ford, except for the Chevy engine. Mine's also dirty and old and upolished and it rattles and squeaks alot as I drive down the road. I'm the black sheep of the group.

now is this an original line or what?

Still chuckling....

Tim,

I think what he was saying is that his T Bucket is an original "Steel" body, not a phony reproduction one made out of fiberglass that you just bolt together from a kit. Either way, lots of guys drop in a Chevy 350 because they know it's better than any Ford or Mopar engine.:D Instead of a Ford in a Ford, Mopar in a Mopar, the ones with the Chevy engines go for better performance.:P
