BobT-47P15
Saw this parked at the dentist's office yesterday. Could tell who the owner was.....he was the only 65 to 70 year old guy in the place wearing overalls with leather chaps and a dew rag. Guess I should have asked him about those wheels, but did not. I suppose they just can be lowered when the bike is at a stop, to hold it up. You can see he did not use the kickstand . Or, do they stay on the ground all the time? Judging by the art work and writing, the man is a Christian biker. They have at least one group here of likeminded folks.
greg g
I believe Goldwings have a reverse deal where the starter motor powers the bike back wards. I think these stabilizers (calling them training wheels may have elicited and un-Christian response) are part of that deal.
thedahmer
The training wheels takes the place of the kick stand I believe-- anyway it is kinda weird, I was parked beside one and the guy got on and I heard the motor winding them up -- the guy looked over at me ( I guess I had a dumb look) smirked and rode off--BUT also looking at it closer there is a handicapped plate on there-- could this be a different kind>>?? Merle Coggins
Yes, there are a couple of different manufacturers that make attachments like that. It looks like that one is of the retractable type. Some of them were automatic and would lower at a certain speed. Others were manually operated. There are also a couple of models that stay on the ground all the time as a sort of poor man's trike. And to answer another person's coment... Most Gold Wings since 1988 have reverse. Only the most basic model, the "Interstate", didn't have it. Since 2001 all Wings have reverse. On the '88-2000 1500cc Wings there was a lever to engage the reverse gear, then using the starter to drive the bike backward. On the 2001 and up 1800cc Wings there is a button to engage reverse, and again the starter button will back you up.
