bergy Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 Ok I have a 53 B3. Paint was originally red.Since the paint is all oxidized-what color of red would be acceptable as an original color? And if using a black interior -would it be correct to paint the insides of the doors red or paint them black? If painting them black -where would I make the color break on the jambs or just inside surface of the door. Since The dash is cream or light gray ,shall I use a cardboard or abs headliner-or make my own- and what color should it be?- blac. red or the color of the dash..? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 you can look up the red FEF is in my build thread (see my sig line) that was color matched from the inside of the glove box. Don't know if the red was the same between 51 & 53 tho. Quote
Reg Evans Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 The inside and outside of the cab would have been the same color from the factory. Quote
Dave72dt Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 FEF's paint is Nason brand using a Spectremaster color code that was matched outside in the sun, to the color sanded and buffed glove box door, based on the match to chips in their chip book. I don't recall the code number but if you can find a jobber that mixes Dupont/Axalta you can take the formula that's in the thread and have it mixed. I've heard that New Holland Red is also close but I can't verify it to be true. I think the code itself is listed somewhere in the thread but didn't find it in a quick search. Quote
manfromtarsus Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 Do a Google search for "Ditzler 70339" and you will find some very useful information to assist you. Quote
Dave72dt Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 i did the search and found several sites with chips to show the approximate color. I've also looked in the chip books at work. Code is correct. However, doing a code interchange on the paint mix computer at work came up "no formulas found" for either the PPG of Dupont codes and that's on a dedicated Dupont/ Axalta system. One of the problems is, and it's been mentioned before, the toners used to create that formula back then, are no longer being used. Chances of it being parked next to another truck the same color is slim so if it's close, no one will be able to tell the difference. Find a part that hasn't been exposed to UV's, sand and buff the surface and take it to a jobber that's willing to spend the time tweaking a formula to get a match. 1 Quote
manfromtarsus Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 A DuPont/Nason dealer in Flagstaff, AZ, helped me find the correct red color for my B-4-B about 3 years ago. It turned out to be Nason 5498ID. I used acryllic enamel and am very pleased with the result. If you locate an Axalta dealer (Axalta bought out Dupont/Nason), they should be able to match that color.
