Mark D Posted November 8, 2016 Report Posted November 8, 2016 If you're asking about the hung under the yellow tag, that's your oil pump. Quote
Andydodge Posted November 8, 2016 Report Posted November 8, 2016 Yep, Marks right......the oil pump is gear driven from the camshaft and has an internal slot that the distributor drive inserts into.........if you remove the oil pump you can change the distributor timing if NOT careful.............I'd strongly suggest getting a workshop manual and reading it cover to cover..........andyd.. 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 8, 2016 Report Posted November 8, 2016 Good to see many folks recommending a service manual. I have been saying this for years. The service manual should be the first thing you purchase for your old vehicle. Quote
Andydodge Posted November 9, 2016 Report Posted November 9, 2016 And apart from a service or workshop manual I'd also recommend getting some sort of Illustrated Parts manual.......I got one when I bought the 41 Plymouth Coupe a few yrs ago that covers 1936-1942.........as the Plymouth was a factory RHD export model assembled in Sth Africa the US parts book was very useful......and was also helpful with my Oz assembled 1940 Dodge D15D Sedan which because it was actually Plymouth based a lot of what was shown was indeed on my car.......so get a shop manual. at the very least....a paper version is preferred too......andyd Quote
Cudan Posted November 9, 2016 Author Report Posted November 9, 2016 hi, Thanks, i totally did not think that this good be the oilpump, because to my knowlegde you could not see them at the outside of an engine. Dan Quote
Dartgame Posted November 10, 2016 Report Posted November 10, 2016 True in many cases. But as an example the chrysler big block (383 & 440) and gen 2 426 hemi all have external oil pumps. Its a really nice design feature. Quote
