Plymouthy Adams Posted November 6, 2016 Report Posted November 6, 2016 (edited) OR IS IT....this will be a bit of good news to those that do not want the hassle of stripping a engine from a body, doing a lot of retrofitting and making of wiring harness etc..(SUBSCRIPT DEEP POCKETS HERE) ..now the whole thing will pivot on the usual deal breaker to the man of the street who is a self doer and not one to farm out their deeds..what is the actual money that will be involved...at 1795.00 for wiring and sensors, unlocked ECU but less the engine.....sorry...see you at the pick and pull HOWEVER...the fact that there is interest and the corp responding...volumes.. https://www.yahoo.com/news/drive-wire-november-4-2016-175447600.html Edited November 6, 2016 by Plymouthy Adams 1 Quote
casper50 Posted November 6, 2016 Report Posted November 6, 2016 Not worth the price to me. I'm sure someone will buy it. Quote
wayfarer Posted November 6, 2016 Report Posted November 6, 2016 ...conversely, I'd suggest that the price is quite reasonable. And, for those of us who have a lot more sand in the bottom of our personal hour-glass than in the top, the time spend designing what is offered is better spent on other aspects of the swap. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 6, 2016 Author Report Posted November 6, 2016 I agree it is good to see the corp. support...but that is just a tad over the top for the average daily grind Joe/self doer. I bought my latest transplant for 1000.00 and after pulling all I need, selling off the body panels and other items of interest not going to the project and then dumping the cut up remains at the scrapper....I have just at 400.00 in a low mileage engine, 5 speed floor shift tranny and rear axle, the complete wiring, factory AC and ABS brakes, 4 speaker stereo pre wired, bucket seats, active SRS, console, front suspension complete, firewall, fuel tank, driveshaft (bolt in right length)and the list goes on and on...the price could even go lower as I have a few remaining parts not yet sold...does this cost recoup happen overnight..no...but neither does the build... wayfarer Posted November 6, 2016 Report Posted November 6, 2016 Agreed. It all depends on what you have to pay for the donor/wreck and how much 'stuff' you want/need to salvage. I'd say you did well....what did you buy? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 6, 2016 Author Report Posted November 6, 2016 I bought a low mileage 2004 (75K) Dakota 3.7 V6 with 5 speed and 3.55 rear gear...drove it to the driveway for tear down....it had gone into a ditch and just at almost stop the top heavy cab at the angle it was fell and hit a rock taking the top of the cab to a point of no repair....otherwise there was not even a bit of dirt or mud on the undercarriage....people screaming for good beds, tailgates and bumpers etc.. for anyone thinking of a retrofit I cannot stress enough the very importance of having the entire donor on hand while doing the refit...you will find yourself grabbing many items you would never have thought you would need to make the job go easy...it is easier to modify for the most part instead of fabricating from scratch. All to often folks will pull the engine and tranny and scrap the body complete with controller and sensor and all the other support paraphernalia goes to the scrapper.....making replacement good to a user but totally worthless for a retrofit.. 1 Quote
