49DODGEBOY Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 Question for you guys. I am looking for the cowm lace for my '49 Coronet Club Coupe as mine does not have any and my hoof sinks below level, Especially in the corners. It is going to the paint shop finally and in researching this I cam across "HOOD CORNERS" ( Hood Corners. Fits flat corners. 80° angle, 1/4" to 3/8" corner radius. 1-3/8" wide. Pair ). What are these and where to they attach? I this what I am missing and the reason my corners sink into the cowl? any help appreciated Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 those are generally found with the 4 piece hoods Quote

Andydodge Posted October 5, 2016 Report Posted October 5, 2016 Yep as Plymouthy said they are for 4 piece hoods............maybe suit 49/50 trucks but never seen those on cars past about 1938, if that........generic cowl lacing is fairly common, for my 1940 Dodge I use some that's about 3/16th thick by 3/4 wide and it has a pressed in channel that allows a 1/8th stainless pop rivet to attach it.......hood sits fine, sorry no pic tho'...............andyd Quote
rb1949 Posted October 5, 2016 Report Posted October 5, 2016 Fabric or rubber cowl lacing is easy to find. Seems odd that such a thin piece would cause or solve your problem. Tape a similar thickness material at that location and see what it does? Quote

I will look into what is out there. So far most have been hollow centers and are too soft. thanks for the input Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 Restoration Specialties.....they out on the swap meet circuit right now so if you do not have a catalog handy...I list their supply....the item goes by the name of channel hoodlace IF this is the very piece you wish to put across the top of cowl at the rear of your hood and is TACKED in place by the spiral nails..the nails will be in the flat section of the lace to protect the finish while still providing a double seal for the hood... CHL12316 1/2 x 3/16 CHL58316 1/2 X 3/16 CHL 34316 3/4 X 3/16 CHL 78316 7/8 X 3/16 CHL 1316 1" X 3/16 CHL 1516 1" X 5/16 Pick your poison.. Quote
Andydodge Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 I have seen a generic style webbing, similar to that used as strapping on military equipment that would work......andyd Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 8, 2016 Report Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) whomever or wherever you obtain this stuff just ensure you have the sunken section in the middle for the fasteners to fit so not to scratch the paint Edited October 8, 2016 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
