I'm going to do a mild "period" rod of my '41 Plymouth 2 door sedan. I've picked up a good 230 from a '52 Dodge, have an Offy intake and split exhaust for it, with an Edgy head to be purchased in the near future.I have started to consider adding a Borg Warner overdrive to the swap. There is an overdrive out of a '39 Chrysler (which is tagged "bolt patten changed for '34 Plymouth") available near me. Anyone have any thoughts on how (or if) I could get this random assortment of driveline components to work?

Using a mopar sourced O/D will allow you to keep the stock rear end as the mopar O/D will have the handbrake attached.......I was going to use a T5 from a Chev S10 pickup together with an updated rear axle & brakes but if your mopar o/d is good then use it, only thing I realised that here in Oz they are hard to find and also they are generally 6volt and my car was already 12volt.......the T5 is completely mechanical in operation which is why I went for it...........ended up selling the car, a 41 Plymouth Coupe & 230 engine etc b4 installing it but didn't expect to have any problems......andyd

The od from a 39 Chrysler is a great choice for 39 and earlier.

The best choice is the R10  from 52 to 56 which is a bolt in

swap for your original trans.  There is also an od used in Chrysler and export Plymouth and dodge  which is just fine. I think its engineering code was R 8.

Thanks for the input - because the '39 unit is in the next town from me, I wanted to think it would be a good fit. I guess the search goes on....

If you go with the Edgy head, it takes about 3 months....or at least it did for me 2-1/2 years ago. Worth the wait.

Howdy -

Did the intake/exhaust and added an OD over the past two years.  I live in Bolton, and work in Framingham, happy to take a ride out and meet some weekend or evening.  I'll send you a PM with my contact info.  Love to see your car too.
