dale Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 Bought SS trim that goes between rear fenders and the body. They came from Bernbaum in straight pieces. I managed to wreck them both trying to bend them to the cars contours. Any one succesfully installed these ? Quote
jcmiller Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 From reading old threads, I think this belongs in the water tube and rear drum category! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) did you cut reliefs in the mounting surfaces allowing for easy bends or did you try to just force it to the shape..most of the stuff you get (at least that I have seen) has a rubber mounting bead..this prevents easy bending if not notched.. IF all metal (unlikely) you would need a shrinker/tretcher set up to do this without kinking.. Edited November 10, 2015 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
casper50 Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 jc this has nothing to do with a watertube or rear drums. Why would it need to go there? Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 jc this has nothing to do with a watertube or rear drums. Why would it need to go there? I believe he is talking about degrees of difficulty. 1 Quote
jcmiller Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 Thanks Don. Yes, I was thinking of the hair-pulling category. Here are a couple links that might be more helpful than my post: http://www.chetscoins.com/1948p15/2011/02122011.htm http://p15-d24.com/topic/23385-installed-my-stainless-steel-welting/?hl=%2Bfender+%2Bwelting#entry229189 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 did you get new material and try again? was just curious to if you decided to stick with the stainless or opt for the easier to work with generic rubber or vinyl...I assure you this stuff is not very forgiving...I have mine out in front of me now...and like you, am not really looking forward to doing this task either..you only get one bite at the apple as they say.. BobT-47P15 Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 As shown in the P15 parts manual. When doing mine, son in law notched material, and also used a pop rivet every so often to hold things in place on the body. Quote
