kridgleyud Posted September 10, 2015 Report Posted September 10, 2015 Hello all, I recently started a 1940 dodge restoration. I was searching for a good/build-able flathead and came across a fellow selling his from a 53 plymouth. Both were 218s. Well, as part of the deal with the '53 218, was 2 transmissions. One is considerably longer than the other but both appear to have the same splines. Wondering is any of you folks could ID them based on an image? Are there any numbers I could look for to help me tell what they are? Shorter one has # 1139152-8 Longer one has # 1138238-2 Thanks Kev. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 10, 2015 Report Posted September 10, 2015 For 49-52 the short wheelbase cars got a short transmission like that. Both wheelbases used the same driveshaft. I believe that is the source of your shorter one. The longer one looks like a standard 3spd. 1 Quote

Andydodge Posted September 12, 2015 Report Posted September 12, 2015 Kev.......nah just a lot of guesses....lol........seriously tho theres some nice pics of your car..tho what happened to the front bumper....it looks like it had been rechromed but did they not polish it properly which allowed the water to get in behind the chrome and start to lift it?.........my 41 Plymouth had all nice new chrome but the idiots didn't give it even a cursory polish on the inside of the bumpers and the plating started to lift on the inside, you could peel it off with your fingers it was that bad........anyway I do like the proper USA 1940 Dodge bits.........can't be much help with the gearboxes tho'...........regards, andyd Quote
