oldmopar Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 I have a 230 engine in a Pilot house truck I just picked up. The distributer looks to be rusted cap was off for years. I have a distributer from a 218 that was in a 49 Plymouth P17 I think I can use that distributer in the 230 but wanted to check to be sure Ed Quote
greg g Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 not the same but interchangable. Just make sure the drive tang is the same lenght, if so you should be good to go. Just don't switch the caps as they may be different. I am running a 54 dodge truck distributor in my 56 Plymouth engine. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 Also make sure that the distributor "tang" is not offset. Some military applications use an offset tang in the oil pump and distributor to minimize the possibility of installing the distributor incorrectly. Quote

I'm not completely certain, but I think the military offset "tang" distributors are also 24 volt. Pete Quote

However, while stationed in France in 1966 the gears on the bottom of my distributor shaft broke (nylon gears) in my slant six 65 Dodge. So I wouldn't have to order one from the states and wait who knows how long, a friend in the motor pool was gracious enough to provide me with a whole new distributor. It was exactly the same for my slant six. Quote

I suppose not, but that is how they are listed in the Vintage Power Wagon catalog... never seen one myself. Since I didn't keep my factory points type distributor, I haven't really payed any attention to the nuances between the different versions. I like the HEI, one less thing for me to figger out , and it makes lightning emanate from my spark plugs giving my the RACERS ADVANTAGE . Pete Quote
