Tatback Posted July 26, 2015 Report Posted July 26, 2015 Yes I did search and through searching I found I'll need to use one of the oval truck type valve stems. I'm pretty sure three of my wheels have the circular opening and just this one is oval. The tire shop put on their biggest regular valve stem but its still leaking, lots of tiny bubbles. My question is which one of these would work best? I've actually found all three mentioned at least once in my searches... here is the problem wheel and each of the stems I have found. While their all cheap enough to buy the shipping makes them come out to about 10/15 bucks. I'd hate to have to buy all three. http://patchboy.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=P&Product_Code=17-501-OV&Category_Code=6-6 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/MII0/476/N1769.oap?ck=Search_N1769_MII_-1_-1&mn=Milton+Industries&mc=MII&pt=N1769&ppt=C0337 http://www.ezaccessory.com/TR501_Oval_Truck_Valve_Stem_Length_p/v1561sp.htm?1=1&CartID=1 Quote
desoto1939 Posted July 26, 2015 Report Posted July 26, 2015 is tere any possibility that there is rust or pitting in the valve stem hole? Did they clean out the hole if there was any rust. I would buy all four valve stems sin ce the cost is only 10-15 with shipping. This way you can have them in you tool box in the car and incase you ever need you then you have the extras. Being on the road and away from home and a tire going flat just because of a valve and you need the special value you will wish you had them. This will be the cheapest insurance that you can buy. This is just my 25 cents worth of advise. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com 1 Quote
Tatback Posted July 26, 2015 Author Report Posted July 26, 2015 Nope I didn't see any rust or pitting, we picked up the tires today and it was pouring outside when we got home. Thats when I noticed it was bubbling. I was able to see the holes before I took them to be replaced yesterday and this one was the only oval. We brought it back to the tire shop and the guy took the valve stem off and showed us it was oval and too large by just a tiny amount...if you wiggled it the bubbling would stop. I'll buy a complete set but the three look to be just a tiny bit different from each other so I don't know which one to buy. Quote
Tatback Posted July 26, 2015 Author Report Posted July 26, 2015 This was from yesterday....it looks as they had tubes in them and I could see the others had round holes like this... Quote
JerseyHarold Posted July 26, 2015 Report Posted July 26, 2015 Is there a local auto supply store near you where you can buy the stems over-the-counter and save on shipping costs? Quote
Tatback Posted July 26, 2015 Author Report Posted July 26, 2015 Unfortunately there isn't. I'm ok eating the shipping as long as I know it'll fit. Quote
_shel_ny Posted July 26, 2015 Report Posted July 26, 2015 Weld it closed. drill a new hole ???? 2 Quote
Tatback Posted July 26, 2015 Author Report Posted July 26, 2015 The guy at the tire shop mentioned that but I don't have or know how to weld. Wanted to save that as an absolute last resort. I know others on here have used the bolt on type with success and was hoping they would post if they had the same wheel as I do and which one of the three worked. Those who posted which bolt on type worked for them didn't say what exact wheel it was. Quote
desoto1939 Posted July 26, 2015 Report Posted July 26, 2015 Is there any way to mic the size of the oval opening? This way you will then know the size that the rubber gasket would need to be to cover and seal the oval hole. The three companies that sell the oversized valve stem then should be able to provide you with the max and min opening that these will seal. Just a suggestion. So I figure you are running tubeless tires. I do know that the guys that use the tubes and have the oval holes have found a rubber ring or insert that will prevent the stem from moving and getting cut but sin ce you have tubless I do not think this would work for you. 58prostreet Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 Earl, The tires are 215/75/R15 3" wide whitewall from Diamondback. They fit good, no rub and handle fine. Tires were $224 each plus $78 freight. Bob 1 Quote
