eric wissing Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 I saw an ad for a 56 Caddy 2 door, $4500 in a local paper. I went and looked. The car was a good runner with a fair interior but a real rough body. Great to see but out of my league. The guy was a character. Within the city we have almost rural areas. He lived on this acerage and had a nice barn/garage. In the corner on a stand was a 218 nicely painted. The stand was a welded up display item with a small fuel tank and a radiator. He said he tried to sell it for $200 and had no takers. I am thinking about buying it. Couldn't hurt to have an extra. He said it ran and he had rebuilt it years ago. Not sure where I will put it. How much does one of these weigh? Thanks, Eric Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Eric, you could build a rolling stand for that engine. Can't recall just what mine looks like because it's covered up with other stuff in the garage. It has a 50 Dodge flathead sitting on it. A guy in Tulsa made it several years ago when he delivered an engine I purchased from him. Simply put the Dodge motor on the stand after it was removed from the car. I think he used some smallish angle iron and put wheels on it. So I can move my engine when needed.....fortunately it hasn't been needed. Quote

knuckleharley Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 If you want a good engine cradle you can roll around and even leave a transmission attached to it,you can't beat the ones from this guy "stumpy" <fordrules@wholenet.net> Here is a photo of the one I bought off him that has a 312 Ford Y-Block sitting in it,complete with a heavy Ford-o-Matic transmission. If it can balance all this and roll easily without tipping,it's a good design. BTW,the red "Ford Y-Block" wording on it is something I did so he could use it for advertising and show people one of his cradles with a engine in it. He makes good stuff. Quote
