Finally going to pull the plug and get those butter yellow stock rims with Roberts hub caps and new treads on my waggon. it only took 30 something years. My B3B will run 15s up front and 16s on the rear. How would 235/R75/15s be up front with 235/R70/16s beon the rear ?

Advice very welcome...Pics to follow..thanks,

Hank

curious why you would go 16 in the rear then step backward with a 70's tire compared the 75 series in the front..

Because Keven's wife got tired of tripping over them and Keven gave them to me (Tk). But to answer your question Plymouthy, i'm guessing the tire saleman is trying to even out the difference in size by giving me a slightly taller tire (75) on the 15s to more closely match the diaameter/circumference of the (70) that will mount to the 16" wheel rear wheel.

Hank;

Were you still thinking of putting the Rusty Hope kit on your truck? If so you may wish to wait on tires and wheels until you have any clearance issues sorted out.

Jeff

Jeff good thinking and thanks for remembering. Based on your experience what will be the clearance issues you can forsee. Am I way off the mark on a tire size pick ?

Thanks for helping guys,

Hank  :)

ok...was not aware of the 'wheel deal'  most folks who put 15's on the front and 16's on the rear are going for the profile....I knew they would be about the same as stated above in your selection...the 75/70 would cancel each other out..

Hank - I put the rustyhope kit on my '55 C-3-B8 with 15" stock wheels. Had to slightly grind the outside top edge of the calipers. I don't think there's much difference in the wheels between our trucks (I could be wrong).

Hank;

There may or may not be a clearance issue. On my 3/4 ton with the factory 15" x 5.5" wheels I had to use 1" thick spacer plates on the front. I don't know what happens on a 1/2 ton when you fit a 15" wheel. I brought it up so you you can do some research on it and perhaps avoid any potential disapointments.

Running Firestones plus I removed four leafs out of the back knowing I wasn't going to really haul anything. Still debating going to all 15" rims because it is so hard to get the price down on the 16" tire on 5" wide rims.
750-16 and 640-15

Thanks for helping guys. I got what appears to be a really great deal from America's Tire Co.

Trampsteer:  (we're bound to meet up sooner or later and I need to borrow the brake adjusting tool I think Rod told me you have) So, you also have your truck running 16's rear 15s front ?

Update on my tire purchase: I went to WalMart ($69). The Sams Club tech said he couldn't even come close to matching the Walmart price) I physhically got a look at the actual tires, while a picture may speak a thousand words...not so with tires (darn I forgot to bring my bathroom scale) My last stop was that Americas Tite Co would have better tires at/or around the same cost and they did and they matched Walmarts tire/install/tax out the door price.

Very likely. I've made it as far as the LA River which is about 15 miles short of Torrance. Two possible issues though,

1) The tool is DeathBound's and although I am sure he has no issue with it I'll PM him before I commit if that's OK.

2) The other issue is that if we actually meet somewhere, I'll probably drool all over your truck.

Let's set up a time where we can all have a breakfast or something.

This is probably pretty obvious but I will just mention it. If you go with 2 different sizes? Will you carry two different spares? This sort of "arrangement" has too many potential drawbacks to be a practical solution.

And then you still have another potential issue with clearances on the 15" wheel if you finally do install the disc brake kit you have. If I were you I would wait until I knew exactly what will work best in the long run. I doubt you will be making any long trips until you swap the 3.73 rear end gears in anyway.

So you understand where I am coming from with this I will tell you that it cost me dearly to retain the stock wheels on my truck. One of the first things I did when I got my truck was to pull the wheels to replace the rotted rubber on them. While they were off I had them sandblasted and powder coated then all new premium rubber. In retrospect I should have waited....and not let my initial investment drive things. Things would have been much cheaper and simpler for me if I had not jumped the gun. I made it all work in the end.......but it would have been nicer to have left myself some options along the way.
