Labrauer Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 Driving around in the 48 coupe I have noticed that I have a sway or leaning action on turns and on a road that has an incline on it while driving. I thought that I would check the rear springs, torsion bar and grommets to see if I could see something broke or come loose. I have installed new shocks last year. Nothing had come loose and the rear springs looked good so I thought it might be the coil springs that needed replacing so about a year ago I purchased a set of coil springs for my 48 P15 coupe and never had the chance to install them till today. I thought that since I have the engine out of the car it would be a great time to tackle the job. After I got them out and looked them over I decided that I would go and tackle the job once and for all. Took the old spring out from under the drivers side and set it aside not thinking just wanting to get finished. I happen to notice when I took the other side off that the new springs were about 1 3/4" shorter than the old ones. I pondered around and finished the job anyway. My question to you guys is what effect if any will these shorter spring do and is it possible that they will make my ride much different? I am also pondering if when I install the engine again and drive will it be a possibility that the control arms will bottom out on bumps and pot holes? I know I will have to go get the front end lined again for toe end ect. Just wanting some feed back on the effects of 1 3/4" shorter coil springs. Quote

pflaming Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 My coil springs are 2.5" shorter than new coils from Eaton of Detroit. Will keep them and see what happens. I've never driven this car. Quote
dpollo Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 If the car is slightly lower, that is a good thing. It may not be because it is the partially compressed spring height which is holding the car up. 1 Quote
