Thomba48 Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 Hello, I am trying to find out if the modells of those two years really display significant differences. From a mechanical perception probably not anyway. From a design perception though it feels to me as if the front part is slightly different. Thanks for your insights again. Thom Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) grille, deck lid appointments are main difference...position in height of fender trim and the position of the taillight on the 49 verse that of subsequent years ..the 49 has the smallest of all Plymouth rear track.. Other than that if you seen one you have seen them all and your choice is mainly which one is more appeasing to your own eye...the grille is often the biggest single aspect that usually divide the owners on the model as they are sister years..oh...and the 49 has the most popular style bumper across the line up of all makes and models and can be found not only on many x-brand cars retrofitted for that styling cue....they also are reproduced in a similar likeness.. Joe Flanagan Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 Aside from what Tim mentioned, the only other difference I know of is that the 50 had a different style of numbering and lettering on the instrument panel. Quote
DonaldSmith Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) The rear fenders were quite a bit different. The '49 Mopars had the taillights at the joint between the fender and body (except for fastbacks?). The '50's had the fenders extended past the edge of the body, and the tail lights resided on the rounded edge of the fenders. Edited October 30, 2014 by DonaldSmith Quote
B-Watson Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 The rear window was also smaller on the 1949. Generally, the 1950 styling was cleaned up over 1949, which has a slightly baroque look to it which made them appear out of date compared to the competition, Chev, Ford and Studebaker. Quote
