truck should have the serial # on the frame in front of the LF spring hanger

Thank you.

I do plan to file for a lost title for it, my uncle bought it 25 years ago for parts and no title.

I plan to take the original motor out and put in my other truck, So I would not want to title it with the engine number.

And the 1949 truck does not have the original motor, so probably need to fix the title on that one as well ... always something!

I have purchased many vehicles out of state, bringing them to California. Most of the vehicles I purchase are older than 1963. I have learned that in the computer age, you MUST ,make sure that the serial number (VIN) is correct and in the correct place on the body/chassis. Many years ago prior to the advent of VIN's, i.e. numbers that have codes for eng, trans, diff, paint, interior, build location, and then the sequential serial number, engine numbers were very commonly used in many states. Taint so now..An engine number is only a sequential number for the engine with maybe a letter or two to signify the model/make of the vehicle, I.E. PB, PA, D,, The DCPD vehicles all have a serial number usually located on the left or right "A" pillar.  There are many publications, Standard Catalog of American Cars, for one, that list the serial/VIN numbers and there location for all vehicles built since the late 1890's.

My suggestion to "nhranut" would be to bounce the problem back to the guy he bought the vehicle from, or, bite the bullet and take the car back to California and get the numbers corrected, using the serial number that is on the car.

I make it a habit to get the numbers correct before I spend one dime on any vehicle I have purchased.
