P15-D24 Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 FYI, think they are aluminum not stainless. Quote
dodgeguy Posted July 1, 2014 Author Report Posted July 1, 2014 Thanks I will double check the metallurgy, there are no completed listings that I can find ,unless I am doing something wrong, which is most likely knowing me ! Can't even find a current similar part1 Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Hi, The grill is stainless sheet metal, die pressed to shape & spot welded together (at least the 1948 cars are). I found one very poor condition, overpriced: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1948-dodge-grill-for-parts-or-restoration-other-makes-custom-rat-rod-46-47-/400721032889?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d4cd5b6b9&vxp=mtr - would not pay more than $20 for this badly dented unit, its only good for spare bars Some 3-4 years back I bought one for spare at eBay. I recall I paid 30...40 bucks. It's un-dented, but the attaching brackets are off. Also super dirty, obviously been laying on the ground on some salvage yard for several years. It will buff off just fine, though. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 as Pekka said, the US D24 is stainless material. The Canadian equivalent model of the Dodge cloaked Plymouth has their grille in cast metal. condition and location play a part...however the need for the items can really be the determining factor, for a super nice unit in excellent state of repair/useability...price depends on how long you wish to hold out for a top dollar sale and if you have a buyer looking for top quality....all is price and demand.....everyone wants to sell high and buy low...true with most retail items...I cannot place a price on another man's product..but I would not let my spare grille go for less than 250.00..realistically, one truck bumper/hitch into the grille...it is toast...that is when the math comes into play full swing...inlike the Plymouth of this era wehre the bars and back panel are easily separated and repaired...the Dodge grille is usually bought all or none Quote
_shel_ny Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 (edited) Thanks I will double check the metallurgy, there are no completed listings that I can find ,unless I am doing something wrong, which is most likely knowing me ! Can't even find a current similar part1 try 1948 dodge grill -marker -mirror -bumper -desoto -truck -aug -bar -exhaust -D25 Edit: add some minus (-) Edited July 1, 2014 by shel_ny Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 I do not know how far back a completed listing will get you on e-bay...I remember seeing them long ago when I was searching quite frequent for D24 parts..... if you got one that is toast and the other guy has a good one...it is time to buy or fly...at least try to negotiate to some degree... Lumpy Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 A grille is something I would keep, if I had the car to go with it...due to the Plymouthy theory of the hitch in the grille. A sound theory it is. I'd kind of like to have a Plymouth grille on my D24, I like them much better. Will the Plymouth cloaked Dodge (or was it visa versa) grille fit/work on a D24? Anyone know? Will any of the Plymouth grilles "fit" on a D24? Oh oh...I think this is called a hijack. !!!! ken Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 with work you can do anything...the Plymouth is more narrow than the Dodge...its a whatever you like and want to do world Quote
Lumpy Posted July 5, 2014 Report Posted July 5, 2014 This is true, but my desire for a different grille does not outweigh my laziness, which would prevent me from actually doing it unless it was somewhat painless. In other words I'm not highly motivated to do it...but would kind of sort of like to. ken. Quote

I see this is a lot...you are not alone in the boat...this ranks right up there with tire kicking....this is a proactive hobby if you expect things to be accomplished..not much more I can say about that....now is the great opportunity of your lifetime to do the deed, document it here..hero or goat time if you will...
