Tfreestyle
Hi everyone. I just bought a 1951 Dodge Wayfarer 2 door as a project. Id like to lower it and saw that I could use the Moog CC850 springs which is about a 2" drop. What shocks could I use with those with the stock mounting locations? does anyone have part numbers, havent been able to find original location shock part numbers? The shocks that were on the car are a sears heavy duty brand that I cant reference to any current shock sizes and have been looking. Id prefer not to do the stock relocation now, Just want to get some cheap shocks on there with the moog springs for the summer. Also the rear leaf pack seems very worn too as the car sits low without any blocks on there. The leaf pack sits almost completely straight with no curve, is this normal or are they completely worn out? any recommendations for replacement? Any help would be greatly appreciated
FULMNTE
Did you check ebay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Monroe-front-shocks-shock-absorbers-51-52-Dodge-Wayfarer-Pair-/400715933348? I had heard about the CC850 springs but decided to just cut a coil off my existing springs. Dropped the front just like I wanted it.... Tfreestyle
I saw those on ebay but I was just asking if anyone had the part numbers so I can buy them locally or a suggestion when lowered. My car actually sits about the same height so far with the new moog springs, I guess the ones in there were really saggy plus these havent broken in yet. I have a pic of the stocks next to the moog on my phone. ill upload it so people can see alittle later
Plymouthy Adams
so instead you going to buy a set of shocks for temp use just because you wish not to take a few extra minutes to relocate the shocks which is your objective anyway...the time to do the relocation is now while there if not for the cost initial but for actual not having to revisit the area for a repeat performance...the cost of a set of shock just to later chunk will cover the cost of a set of mounts...your time, your car, your money but I have having trouble understanding the logic.. Tfreestyle
Plymouthy Adams- Thanks for your comments, I will be building custom shock mounts and welding them in once I have access to a lift and proper fabrication tools and space, I dont want to do that type of work in a 10ft wide driveway with an angle grinder and 110 volt welder. Also plan on alot more custom things at that time and just want the car back on the road for now. I saw the 5752 shocks between $16-25 each, throw away like 40 bucks? its not that big of a deal Does anyone know if the monroe 5752 shock fit the 1951 models? they seem to only be listed for up to 1950
Plymouthy Adams
that same money would buy a set of bolt on shock mounts...that was all I was saying...bolt one is a very easy driveway fix...there are a number of sources for these... Plymouthy Adams
with a bit of looking about you will find that the use of the word old and finding suitable brackets are not hand in hand...proactive in the key word..
DJ194950
Tim could you even see the ebay link? I can"t. My own post! Old is what i am. F-1 ford parts are My age! New old parts are avail. Some have also used even older Mopar simalar type mounts that can be hard to find. Years-unknown to me, but i'm old and thats the story I'm sticking to! Plymouthy Adams
am not in any fashion referring to NOS stuff of that era in my post above...not many things have changed over the years...ole a slight variance in bolt count...displacement platform etc..but hanging a shock is hanging a shock... and no I did not get your link to open but F1 shock mounts I am very familiar with as I have two pair of these , set or so of Dodge truck mounts ..see them for a good price..I jump on them with all four feet as they say..I was referring to later model vehicles are also suitable if you go looking...if you find yourself with nothing to do one day..a stroll through a junkyard is very rewarding as you can find so many things that can be used in your build... DJ194950
If I had a new project I'd go to the pick&pull again and again and also to the other one 30 miles away (twice as big), no older junk yards left here (ca.) unless private and that's DAMN near impossible also, city, county, state all hate old cars! Just looking for one part at a yard is enough excuse to spend a couple of hours looking for ideas. Back to the original poster, you need to get your height desired set and then to your homework as to shocks/lenghts etc. monroe shocks have an online catalog of shocks with everything they make and it's about 40-50 pages long with all measurements, mount styles, application and on and on. Best to luck with your project. DJ
