55 Fargo Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Hey all, bought a 6.5 hp HF type, sold in Canuckland at Princess Auto, it's a honda clone. I actually bought it about 5 years ago for the tiller, paid $88 for it new. Today, pulled it out of the shed, turned on fuel valve, pulled choke, and it fired right up 1st pull, very reliable engine. I installed an NGK plug a few years ago, and use quality oil. I have been using gasoline with 10 % ethanol. I did not use any stabilizer on it last fall, but did run carb dry, could the very bitter cold winter, keep the gas from de-gradating as it would in warmer climates...impressed with this little chines engine Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 I have several of these...online says they are the best bang for the buck go cart engines going..run the snot out of them till they drop(long time doing that on the average) for the money you miles ahead..go get another...less than 100.00 a pop...get the 3.5 for about 80.00 got one of them on a mini bike and one on the tiller...as you said..hard to go wrong... iowa51 Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 Have had good luck with the one on my kid's go-cart. Talked to a small engine repair guy and he said they are good for go-carts, roto-tillers, mini-bikes, etc... Not good for log splitters, generators, etc... that run for long times at constant speeds. He said they have cheaper metal and will self destruct in a short time if not allowed to cool down. Quote
_shel_ny Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 Was thinking about a replacement engine for my mower, but it looks like they no longer carry a 3.5 engine. 5.5 hp seemed a bit stout for my little 20" push mower. Took the carb off mine for some clean up. It will go another year. 1984 model. Next time the snow blower kicks I will pick up a 6.5 hp from HF instead of paying the small engine guy $200+ for repairs. Quote

Synthetic oil, don't over rev and heat, might surprise you....or scare you.....LOL Quote
