Joe Flanagan Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 I'm installing the front seat tracks on my Plymouth and it looks like the rod that operates them will run into the raised portion on the transmission hump you see in this photo: If I were to move the seat forward, the rod would hit the transmission hump. I tried to bend it so that it clears the hump, but then it's too short to reach the passenger side. Anyone know how this is supposed to work? Thanks. Quote
Johnny S Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 Joe, I believe that the rod is simply "bowed" in the middle towards the rear of the car. John Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted May 18, 2014 Author Report Posted May 18, 2014 Apparently, the rod bows upward when you operate the lever, thus clearing the transmission hump. I just watched the rod while I operated the control and it seems that's what it was designed to do. Either that or a very convenient coincidence. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 Do I remember a hook from the bottom of the seat to the rod that held it up over the hump? Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted May 19, 2014 Author Report Posted May 19, 2014 Don't know, but that would make sense. If there was such a hook, it's long gone now. Quote
DJ194950 Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 Both of my 50 Ply's the rod touched the trans tunnel and did not affect the seat slide working after a good cleaning and lubeing of each track. When each one will work easily off the car, then you can adjust the rod lenght to work correctly by slight bending of the rod to alter the lenght. With the seat frame mounted to the tracks that will hold them aligned together get a helper to try sliding it back and forth and do the adjustment mentioned. Best of luck, Doug Quote
Mark Haymond Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 Yeah, the rod simply rubs on the hump. It won't rattle. And when you slide the seat forward the seat moves but the seat tracks and the rod stays in the same position. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted May 19, 2014 Author Report Posted May 19, 2014 I temporarily put the lower cushion on the seat and tried moving the seat forward and backward and everything works fine. The rod does make light contact with the transmission tunnel but it doesn't cause a problem. Thanks for the responses. Joe Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 There is a hook or should be under the center of the seat frame---for sure on 1951-2 Plymouths. Quote
