wilmacmike Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knows if a grease tube/hose for the clutch release (throwout bearing) bearing, part # 633286 (found it on ebay while looking for other parts) was an option for these cars or not. If they were, is there a threaded hole in the release bearing housing the tube would screw into to grease the bearing? My release bearing is a little noisy (squeaking). It looks to be in very good shape, however the car sat for quite some time. Thanks for any help on this..... Mike Quote
desoto1939 Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 I will first look at my 36-42 Desoto MAster Parts book to see if there is any indication that the grease line was used on your 37 Desoto. I know on my 39 Desoto they did not use the grease line.. I 1976 I came thru Carson City when i went across the USA on my bicycle ride across the US and then we climbed up to Lake Tahoe and then onto Sacremento and then ended in San Fran. What model S3 do you have? i have a 39 S6 four door sedan Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
desoto1939 Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 I looked in my 36-42 Desoto master parts book and the clutch release grease tube is only listed for 1936 Desoto and the part number is 633286. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com Quote
DonaldSmith Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 I just received a new clutch release bearing from Bernbaum's. The bearing has a thin, transparent grease coating on it. Is it pre-greased, or do I have to push grease into it, as in a wheel bearing, with that cone-shaped gizmo? Quote
DonaldSmith Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 I downloaded some instructions for clutch release bearing installation. "... be sure there is grease inside the I.D. of the bearing. Most of the bearing manufacturers pre-lubricate their bearings, but there are a few exceptions. This grease allows the bearing to slide easily on the transmission quill. ... Apply a thin layer of white lithium grease on the ball stud (of the fork assembly)..." The bearing looks like there is little room to force grease into it, so I assume the bearing is closed and pre-lubricated. I'll grease the "quill" that the bearing rides on. Yell if this is not right. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 If I recall I rigged up a grease fitting on a medical needle and used it to force grease behind the seal. Quote
Andydodge Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 Don.......you still got that needle grease fitting?............a mate here in Oz needs his knees greased.......mine ain't too good also..........lol............do you do house calls?............lol............andyd Quote
DonaldSmith Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 I found an assortment of grease gun needles at O"Reilly's on line, so I can look at them at their local store. Question(s): Do you really need to inject grease into the clutch release bearing, or is it just a belt-and-suspenders, feel-good issue? Does the local garage grease the bearing before installing it? What have the boys on the forum been doing? Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 About a year ago I found a knee doctor who filled both my knees with what he called STP. Worked well on one knee. Not as well on the other. I think the needle he used was longer. Quote
