dmulhall Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 the 218 in my b2b will be the same as the engine in a P15...right? does anyone know what else will be the same? I might be able to get one cheap...use it for parts or something Quote
Merle Coggins Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 Should be close enough. The bell housing will be different, if you get that with it. Also, my B2C has the newer style, internal bypass, water pump. Is your B2 the same? I suspect that the P15 engine will be the external bypass setup. It's not a big deal, just pointing out some possible differences. I would make a difference when ordering head gaskets, thermostats, and water pumps. Merle Quote
greg g Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 My P15 was an early model and the engine was an internal bypass deal. Most if not all of the accessories will swap between them. I have read somwhere that for some reason P15 heads are preferable, due to cumbustion chamber design. I believe the heads are interchangable regardles of the bypass situation. And for my money, I would have the head shaved to bump the compression ratio a bit. You can go to .070 off and still run regular gas. When I had mine done the machine shop charged me 40 bucks or so, so it is a good benefit for not much money, and if you have it off anyway..... Quote
dmulhall Posted June 9, 2007 Author Report Posted June 9, 2007 right on.. thanks guys..I'm going out tonight 2 have a look at it.. apparently its all there, minus the windshield and interior... but of course, its been sitting for years and years... Thanks again Dave Quote
IanT_Qld Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 Dave, Check the length, as canadian trucks have a 25" 218 and US trucks have 23" 218 block. Out here we all have the 25" Canadian block. Quote
greg g Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 OOOPS!!!! Missed the fact we were talking a Canadian engine. P15 engines are 23 1/2 in blocks. Quote
norrism1 Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 Make sure the sump is in the correct location. Some had it to the front of the engine and some have it at the back. Don't know if it would interfer with install or not. Quote
