Plymouthy Adams Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 trying to ensure to the best extent possible the correct size and weight limit of a set of door hinges..has anyone else noticed that there is NO LONGER recommended weight limits on hinges...none, notta..nothing on the label/package...also nothing to be found on line by the manufacturer...another step to prevent any liabilities by the company as to the fit and quality of their product... DJ194950 Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Assuming your talking about for home/farm use.? Made offshore most likely and do they really test anything they make? I doubt it ! , therefore 0 ratings! Lawsuits everywhere- too many lawyers! Doug Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 4, 2014 Author Report Posted May 4, 2014 I bought some of the heaviest commercial entrance door hinges I could get...they should well do what I need but it would have been great if I had a industry guideline for data comparison...all my entrance doors on my garage are commercial grade steel jambs and steel doors..not those light weight skinned doors found at most home improvement stores... win or lose, be a good sport....lol Quote
BigDaddyO Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 When in doubt, add more hinges. I think Abe Lincoln said that. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 6, 2014 Author Report Posted May 6, 2014 maybe ABE was trying to get the "swing" vote.... after welding up 2 sets of door frames I find they are very much lighter than I thought they would be...never reall did a weight calculation on paper...the skin will add a couple more pounds but not a great amount...will be less weight than a commercial grade steel door.. this is why I decided to go with metal door frames with metal skin..wood would have been way more in weight..easier/faster to make in the long run though and later more prone to sag...
