Hello all from Central Florida!

Bought a Dodge Wayfarer for my boy and me to restore/customize. Previous owner already started some (53 Corvette grill)...

Still has the 230 Flathead with 3 on the tree Fluid Drive transmission

So far, we restored the interior - new carpet, seat covers, door panels, etc...

Disc Brakes. lowering a bit are next on the list. And the hood needs paint, too... :)

post-6645-0-10522200-1393384788_thumb.jpgThe grille does seem to "work" well on that car.

I think glass packs always sound best on cast iron manifolds. The other mufflers, such as "turbo" mufflers seem to work best on tube-headers with collectors. My next experiment is to run the exhaust pipe with no muffler, but take it all the way out the back. I think that will give me the sound I want....or not. We'll see. Right now I have a glass pack, and the exhaust turned out the side, in front of the rear wheel. But it's still really quiet. !!!

I bet a split manifold does sound great.

Brings back memories. Found these pics while sorting through the fire debris (see fire in the Pilot-house side). That style was not all that popular with the young folk back then. Dad bought this one for me without my knowledge.

Looks like a great project for you and your son. Whats the other car under the cover in the garage?  :D

Its a 1971 Chevy Monte Carlo, 'slightly' modified :)

Its one of the Aluminum 3-rows you can buy off ebay. I think it is a Champion radiator...

How's the quality of it? I'm in the market for a new radiator and saw them but wasn't too sure how well they were made.

I have a champion 3 row as well, I like it a lot and for the price hard to beat! Make sure you use the stock PSI rated cap though not the one that comes with it just because it can handle higher pressure doesnt mean your stock heater core can and will blow that sucker apart lol trust me on this. I didnt get mine on ebay though. I also have a split manifold with Dynomax race bullet twin muffler, closer to the manifold louder she is! I like loud but no mufler can mean drone on the highway, mine rumbles at idle, nice rasp on acceleration, and music to my ears on the interstate.

Hi.  Welcome.  The car is looking good.  The interior especially.   The vette grille isn't too bad on this model.

A split manifold with a couple of the longer glasspacks sounds good on these old flatheads. (my opinion)

Welcome. I've got the cast Langdon split manifold on mine, sounds good even with regular mufflers but probably would sound great with glasspacks.
