501??

If you are meaning the A518, (small block) then it can be used but requires an adapter AND requires that you

chop off the dog-leg on the corner of the block.

The easiest way to put an A-518 on a bigblock is to buy a conversion bellhousing.  These require you to cut off the front portion of the A-518 casting and then bolt the conversion bellhousing onto the front pump mounting bolts.  You also want to be sure what A-518 transmission you have; some are set up for standard convertors, other must have a lock-up convertor; the input shafts are different.  Nowadays they make small computers to control the lock-up and OD functions in a car that wasn't originally set up for one.
