_shel_ny
Not a common thing, but perhaps a problem with the ignition switch. Have you checked for voltage (using a test light is best) in the system? At the coil?, at the input side of the points? (with points open)
Don Coatney
Do you have power to the ignition side of the coil? Do you have power to the distributor side of the coil? Do you have power to the points? Are your rotor and distributor cap in good shape? Have you removed the spark plugs for cleaning/inspection? greg g
Make your self a 4 ft long jumper wire with a couple of alligator clips on the ends. Power the ign side of the coil (-) by attaching the wire to the neg terminal of the battery. Now see if you have spark or if the car starts. If it starts you shut it down by removing the wire from the battery. This shows you the fault is between the battery and the igition switch. Or you can simply use a lighted circuit tester probe to see if you have power from the switch to the coil. If you have power there, then the fault is between the ign lead, and the engine. ie Coil, condenser points, rotor, cap, high tension wires. If the fault is between the battery ad the coil, the first thing to do is take all the wires and connections off the battery terminal of the solenoid and clean them and then re install then clean and tight and retest. Then if you do not get power at the coil the next step would be to check the connections on the ign switch, testing each one to see if current is passing through the switch.
