Joe Flanagan Posted September 21, 2013 Report Posted September 21, 2013 I got a trunk gasket from Steele and it's one straight length of rubber that will have a seam where the two ends meet. I'm assuming I should put the seam at the bottom near the latch but wanted to ask to see if I've got that right. Has anyone else done this? Thanks. Quote

bosworth Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 Joe I hope I'm not hijacking your thread, but I'm also installing the trunk gasket on my 48 club coup. My question, does the gasket go into the groove in the trunk lid or in the channel in the body around the trunk opening. It seems to fit well in either place Thanks Bill Quote
busycoupe Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 I think that it goes on the lid. That way water can drain around the trunk opening. Mine is on the trunk opening, and was when I bought the car. It is on my list of things to correct. Dave Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted September 22, 2013 Author Report Posted September 22, 2013 It goes into the channel around the opening. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 you folks need to know Joe is not working on a P15 Quote
bosworth Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 I was looking at what I think was an unrestored 49 dodge at the Charlotte autofair yesterday, the gasket is around the opening, but the trunk lid just has a flat lip, no groove or channel around it's perimiter. I'm leaning twards putting the seal into the channel on the lid so that the water can drain through the channel around the opening but I would like to be correct Thanks Bill, 48 p15 club coup Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted September 22, 2013 Author Report Posted September 22, 2013 Right, I should have said I'm working on a 1949 Plymouth. In my case the rubber goes into the channel around the opening. Don't know about other years and models. Quote
