ktmripper Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 I know this is a little ot but I had to tell someone. Out in the woods of tongonoxie ks I just bought a 51 or 52 dodge m37 power wagon. Two rolling chassis minus transimissions. one cab,one bed and one barn load of parts. Most everything seems to be there exept the windshield frame and headlights$$$. It was 100 degrees outside, the weeds were overgrown and I was in shorts, so I didn't get the best look and no pics yet. Would one of these flatheads fit in my d24? I sold one of these about 18 years ago and never forgave myself, so here we go again from scratch. 1 Quote
P15-D24 Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 They are awesome trucks. Really need some pictures to make this thread complete! Quote
ktmripper Posted September 4, 2013 Author Report Posted September 4, 2013 Sunday. I'm going to sharpen the machetes bring long pants, 4wd diesel, car hauler trailer, and a winch. Will make sure to get pics of the recovery. The effort to get these beasts is worth more than I paid for it. 1 Quote
garbagestate 44 Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 A guy I work with has a 1953 m-37. I've never seen it but I think he has a 230 cid motor with a 24 volt starter and waterproof everything. He says its geared so low that 45 mph is almost redline. Quote
GlennCraven Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 I think your buy is fantastic! ... My brother's girlfriend is from Tonganoxie, so I'd love to see pics of the recovery. Pam might even recognize the area depending on the pics. Quote
knuckleharley Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 (edited) A guy I work with has a 1953 m-37. I've never seen it but I think he has a 230 cid motor with a 24 volt starter and waterproof everything. He says its geared so low that 45 mph is almost redline. They run along all day at 45-50 mph,but the real problem with these things is when they are sitting still or barely moving. Takes two men and a small boy to turn the damn steering wheel. We used to use one all the time in VN to make runs to Pleiku to pick up stuff for the camp. I much prefered the old diesel duece and a half because it would run 70-75 mph,and there were ambushes practically every day on the road from Kontum to Pleiku. Faster was MUCH better. BTW,for those of you who are vets and wondering about driving over 35 mph,I was in Special Forces, and we didn't have to move in convoys. None of the convoy rules applied to us because we never had more than one truck at a time on the road to start with. Pretty hard to arrange a gun truck front and rear and a minimum of 5 trucks when you only have one truck. Edited September 5, 2013 by knuckleharley Quote
