Dennis_MN Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 There is a more complete story on external links, but due to the heat and humity around here, I spend quite a few hours pouring over the auction web site http://www.vanderbrinkauctions.com/auctions_current.php And have a summary of never sold Chev Cars . Dennis_MN Posted August 29, 2013 Author Report Posted August 29, 2013 I also spent a lot of time looking at the pictures for the Day 2 auction where most of the stuff is used, like a junk yard. There are a couple of 53/54 Plymouths, a few Studebakers, a couple of chrysler convertibles. And for the Hamb guys there is a 49 Merc sedan and a 46 Ford Sedan. Here is the details on the 1955 Dodge Pickup 155 71L P 1955 Dodge 100 Pickup 1161710672 5 TITLE 56,889 Dennis ..... END REPORT ..... Quote
Ram Man 02 Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 info on this auction is really getting around! i would really like to attend but i know everything i would want is going to go for more then id like to spend so guess there isnt much point in teasing myself Quote
GlennCraven Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 I'm of mixed opinion, Ram. Word of the auction has definitely gotten around, but it's in Pierce, Neb., and that's a couple of hours from anywhere, let alone any really major city. And it's been so frequently billed as a Chevy auction that until Dennis did all this legwork, I doubted there were many non-Chevy models in the mix. ... But there are quite a few. I think the Chevy stuff will go dear, but Dennis might be right that the other makers will go much cheaper. There are some restorable Ford pickups in the sale, about a '68 Torino (I think) that looked fairly solid, etc., and I think those could be very reasonable. By the way, I just noticed you can bid online for the next 30 days, to set a baseline I guess for where the live bidding starts. Some of the cars might be won online, I suppose. But there's a Chevelle SS 396 that's already at $10,000. Quote

pflaming Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Pierce, NE is 125 miles NW of Omaha and 75 miles SW of Souix City, IO. Thus, while 'isolated' yet accessible. It is beautiful corn country and lots of polka music on the local am stations. Lots of Germans, Bohemians, and Polish folk up there. We called them "Krouts", "Bohunks" and "Poles" back in the '50's before the term 'politically correct' was coined. Note to the administrators, this is a history lesson, not an political statement!. Captain Neon Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 I can't imagine what a logistical nightmare this could be. It's gotten to be such a big deal that the History Channel is going to be on-site recording the event for posterity. Iola, Hershey, and Carlisle are bad enough, but they do this every year and they know what they are doing. I'm imagining backed-up traffic for miles getting into Pierce NE, and parking being a complete cluster. Think: the original Woodstock. I'll watch the highlights and commentary on the History Channel! If it were a MoPar dealer, I'd consider going just so I could tell people that I was there, but I don't want to be any where near this mess. Quote

And I just noticed you are in Hiawatha! ... I have kinda-kin in Hiawatha. Quote
Captain Neon Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 We moved to Hiawatha earlier this year after commuting from Topeka to Sabetha for three months. My wife works part-time in Hiawatha so she knows a few people, but I don't know folks in Hiawatha. I would have preferred to live in Sabetha since that is where I work, but the housing rental market is tight in small-town America (no one wants to risk renting out their house to strangers, only to have it trashed). Very hard to get in contact with home owners looking to sell to discuss rental possibility, and then convince them that we will treat property well. Current landlord has been great to work with: career National Guard. Landlord in Topeka pretty much an absentee slumlord. Collected rent, never fixed any thing, and then withheld security deposit citing disposal of items left behind that were on-site when we took possession. He even expected us to show the house for him while in process of moving out since he lived in Wichita and couldn't be bothered to do himself. I noticed that some one finally moved in this summer after house vacant for 6 months. Items warranting disposal still on-site. I only hope that they didn't buy the house from him for any where near his inflated asking price. Landlord asking $130K for $60K house: rotting front porch, leaky windows, cobbled wiring, poor amateur renovations of kitchen and bathroom, rotting plywood playcastle in back yard, dangerous dying huge maple trees in front yard, and overgrown bushes blocking ill-situated garage. The house has gorgeous original woodwork on 1st story, and lots of potential, but was a $130K property only after pouring about $80K into it. What was once a desirable upper middle-class neighbourhood when our cars were new is falling into disrepair as elderly homeowners moving into nursing homes and selling at loss to slumlords and unprepared home-buyers. GlennCraven Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 Sounds like small-town Kansas and a lot of landlords everywhere, yep. My brother's niece is a department manager at Walmart there and her husband is something of an old-car guy and owns a wrecker service. He's a good guy and knows his work, so if you ever need a rollback to get 'er home, call Hook-Up Towing. Quote
Captain Neon Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 Which department? My wife works in the pharmacy. Quote
GlennCraven Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 My mother tells me now that Laura may be the assistant store manager. ... I see her a couple of times a year at family events and haven't talked to her much about work. But I've always liked her a lot and I like her husband, Scott. Quote
