Mark D Posted March 19, 2013 Report Posted March 19, 2013 Any of you LA area guys want to meet up and have a beer and show off your cars somewhere in the greater LA area on the 9th? I'll be out there on business and I've got a free day to myself! Also looking for recommendations on car museums, I've been to the Petersen several times, and up to Sylmar to the Nethercutt at least twice. What else is in the area that worthy of a visit? Quote
TodFitch Posted March 19, 2013 Report Posted March 19, 2013 Should be some old Plymouths in the parking lots of the hotels off exit 143 of I-15 in Hesperia at the end of the day. That would be our group, currently about 5 or 6 cars, driving from the San Francisco area to Tucson. Expected arrival time, assuming my speed and distance estimates are correct and we have no problems, around 6 PM. Quote
Mark D Posted March 19, 2013 Author Report Posted March 19, 2013 Well a parking lot full of plymouths will certainly apease the appetite. I'll drop that in my calendar and shoot for a drive by. Quote

Mark D Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 All packed and ready for my flight this afternoon. Tonight I am headed to San Antonio via Dallas. Tomorrow morning I am touring the USAA Campus, then I'm back in the air at 1:30 and headed to LAX. Mid day Tuesday I am driving down to Oceanside CA to meet forum member Charles Furman to see his collection, then I'll be headed north towards Pasadena to meet forum member Jon Eugenio in the afternoon. Then sometime around supper I am headed up to Hesperia to meet up with Tod Fitch and his clan of plymouths. Should be a fun day of sightseeing and meeting forum members. Photos to follow of course! Say hay to Charles Furman for me. I have not met him but he sent me some stuff for my car about ten years ago. Quote
Mark D Posted April 10, 2013 Author Report Posted April 10, 2013 Had a great day chasing old plymouths today. Left Marina Del Rey at around 9:30am this morning and headed south on the 605 towards San Deigo. Left the highway after I passed camp Pendleton and watched the black hawks fly over head by the shore for a few minutes, en I headed to Oceanside to meet up with Charles. Had a quick taco lunch and found his place at around 12:45p. Toured his garage and collection of classics. Lucky guy he is to have so many wooden plymouths at his disposal! He really surprised me when he showed me his Hawaiian sampan! I've seen pictures, but never expected to see one in real life! Charles and I agreed to keep in touch when I'm next in the area, and hopefully We can meet again at a local cruise. I put the top down on my Volvo convertible and left Oceanside headed to Palm Springs to visit with a friend who was also out here traveling on business. What an incredible drive I had today! Amazing scenery at every turn and very little highway traffic to speak of. The most amazing vistas occurred in the valley just before I got to Palm Springs, I rounded the crest of the canyon and there before me lay hundreds of wind turbines spinning away. Breathtaking... Shortly thereafter I got to the Westin in palm springs and large kettle one & cranberry to quench the desert thirst. It was a good visit. I left Palm Springs at 5, with the roof down of course, and headed north west to Hesperia to catch up with Tod Fitch and his group. He and I were both running an hour behind but ended up pulling into the parking lot of the holiday inn minutes apart. I got to meet a very pleasent bunch of folks and took a few photos of their cars. Gave special salutations to a friend of Greg G and Mark Aubuchon. She was thrilled they had sent their regards! These folks were tired from the road and so was I, so I did not linger and hit the road again for the 87 mile trip back to my hotel. All totaled, I drove 373 miles today, and shook the hands of several fine Plymouth owners. If my luck prevails I will also get to see Fedoragent and his coupe tomorrow, but that depends on what I accomplish while in in the office. Pictures to follow folks, the iPad I use when I'm traveling is not 100% forum friendly. Quote
Mark D Posted April 17, 2013 Author Report Posted April 17, 2013 Finally found some time to post a few pictures from my trip out to LA last week. Met some fine people and had a blast touring the valley. First visit of Tuesday was with Charles and his collection of great woodys; The reason for my travel to see Charles was to pickup a small trophy that he had no use for. Second visit of that day was a couple hundred miles north with Tod Fitch's group; Last visit was with Fedoragent (Jon) and his p15 coupe; I had a great time touring and meeting up with these folks, wish I had more time in Hesperia with Tod's group. Would advise anyone that's traveling to take time to put a face to the name. Quote

Don Coatney Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 PS - Don - I did give Charles your regards, brought a smile to his face. Thank you. My last job prior to retirement put me on the road 2 out of every 3 weeks. Like you I looked up forum members in my travels whenever I had the chance. Glad you have the opportunity to do the same.
