morson82 Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Hey fellas, does anyone know of a website in which I can find out how many 1942 Plymouth Special Deluex Coupes, or other years mopars, were built? I kind a, sort a, have agreed to buy one but I think I forgot to tell my wife........She already isn't so crazy about having my 42 Dodge and 66 Merc Cyclone apart in the garage....Oh and not to mention the 42 parts car I have in the back yard.......Yup, I'm pretty sure the SH#@ is going to hit the fan....looks like another cold front will be moving into the Colchester,CT area....Think I will forget to tell here for as long as I can. BobT-47P15 Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Just tell her the "Old Car Fairy" brought it. Quote
PatS.... Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Honey, you poor thing, your memory is fadng so fast!! Dear, that car has been there for years...don't you remember???? Quote
Dennis_MN Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Here in Minnesota, we have a "48 hour rule" which works like this. You drag a large article home and if your spouse doesn't notice it for 48 hours, you can then say, when she finally asks about it, oh that's been here for a long time, I got it free from someone. For example in your case, just park it next to the parts car. Soon, she will think its just a couple of cars in the back. Dennis Quote
Johnny S Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Don't you have a "good friend" who was storing it for you.....don't you remember honey? Maybe what we all need to do is acquire a few small strategically places parcels around the country where we can sort of "rest" our acquisitions until the time is right to bring 'em in. You know....some P15-D24 parking lots? John Quote
Guest rockabillybassman Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 I have a friend who collects electric guitars. His wife aint too crazy about it, so he gets them all the same colour. She has no idea which ones are which, they're all vintage sunburst! Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 I have a friend who collects electric guitars. His wife aint too crazy about it, so he gets them all the same colour. She has no idea which ones are which, they're all vintage sunburst! What's going to happen when his wife starts to count the number of guitars? Quote
1just4don Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 Norm, Me thinks the solution to the counting question is SOOOOO obvious. She HAS to be a blonde that cant count that far,,,even with all the aid of fingers and toes. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 When I buy some small part for the car on ebay, I have it sent to me at the office. Then I simply take it home and stash it with the other stuff and junk in the garage. She can't tell what's what out there.....works so far....... Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 I guess I must be lucky to have my wife. She doesn't say anything when I buy parts or other old car stuff. Only thing she might say is that's neat, or just the opposite if she doesn't like it. Or, what's that for? I just tell her why I bought it and she goes along with it. Now, that's for car parts and neat stuff, not a whole car. She knows I'll discuss something like that with her before I buy. So no need to hide things from her. After all, her father and brother were also into old cars all her life, so she grew up with that. So she's that way. Quote
Normspeed Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 My wife stopped worrying about that stuff years ago. Right after I dumped her. Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 To answer your question, I don't know of any web sites that have that information but the "Standard Catalog" series would have all that information. This is from the Standard Catalog of Chrysler. And... You don't have to yell! Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 I think I have found my calling, I am going to tell all the wives so I can get all these cars for myself. I will just tell then get the tow truck out and be waiting to get the goods. Only thing.....what do I do when I get the stuff home, My wife won't let me have another thing not even a headlight bezel:eek: Quote
PatS.... Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 Rodney, I hope you have some couches for "guests" too sleep on...or an extra doghouse or two for your evil dastardly plan to work ;) Quote
morson82 Posted May 20, 2007 Author Report Posted May 20, 2007 Jim, where can I find these "standard cataloges" your talking about, never heard of them. As for the yelling, I believe that is when its all in capitol letters. I was just trying to make it easier for the "older" members to read my postings.........haha Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 You can get the standard car catalog books at some larger book stores. If they don't have it, they can probably order it for you. Also, try Hemmings Motor News. Old Cars Weekly also sells them (Krause Publications). Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 I have a friend who collects electric guitars. His wife aint too crazy about it, so he gets them all the same colour. She has no idea which ones are which, they're all vintage sunburst! I do not know 'bout your spouses, but I kinda doubt that ol' color trick would work on my wife, let's imagine... Currently I have a '48 Dodge sedan, a '62 Renault and the daily driver '99 Renault Scenic. Let's suppose they were all the same color and let's suppose I'd also have a big roomy garage to keep all the treasures hidden and take one at a time out. Then let's suppose I would be fortunate to get a '66 Cyclone and '42 Plymouth club coupe (like our friend here has) without her learning about the business... That makes total of five. I would drive one for every day of the working week pretending I only have one green car... Would she buy it? - Imagine the cars... Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 Ok, first of all, I thought you thought I was so old I must be hard of hearing, now you tell me that I'm so old you figure I must be hard of seeing! WELL I NEVER! I'm just kidding, you make your letters any size you want, I was just being funny (well, I was trying anyway). "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!";) Anyway, to answer your question, you should be able to find "Standard Catalog of American Cars" in most large bookstores. I believe it is in three volumes covering the 1800s to present. They also have more specific catalogs that cover single manufacturers. If your bookstore doesn't carry them Amazon.com has them all. I have the first two volumes of "American Cars" that covers up to 1975 and the "Chrysler" book also. They're great sources of reference. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!". Jim; If your car is even remotely dirty you can follow me to visit the wizzard at the car wash in OZ:D Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 Well Don, It's dirty alright but it's still not on the road. Engine's done, tranny's done, almost finished with the U-joints. Let's see, Memorial Day weekend I have company from out of town, Tulsa's right around the corner and you'll be gone. Hmmm.... Tell you what, fourth of July, let's do that car wash in Oz! See Ya!
