Arthur1947 Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Just wanted to know your opinion on this custom air cleaner I'm working on. I know there are air restriction issues with the smaller 4" d air cleaners, not to mention having to stack and glue them. Thought I'd throw this out there. I was going for a machine age look. This would accommodate an air cleaner three times the size as the one on the left. Best. ARTHUR Quote
Arthur1947 Posted November 4, 2006 Author Report Posted November 4, 2006 Good old stainless salad bowls and mixing bowls. My brother in law made an air cleaner out of a small stainless steel mixing bowl a few years ago. Just drilled a hole in the top. Used the 4" air cleaner as a base with a filter inside on his 36 Ford. Looked good and it worked ok. He also has dual carbs on it. This is a bisected smudge pot. No salad here Norm. Best. Ed Griffin Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Hope your looking for honest answers. Looks like a spitoon cut in half or a container to hold a jacuzzi water filter. Next will be conduit running out your water temp outlet on the block? Seriously though, it's what you like that counts but, you did ask It's like what some seem to repeat a lot when they see a chopped car etc, just because you can doesnt mean you should. To me it's big, bulky and doesnt look like it goes with that nice motor. Maybe if it were finished it would help the looks? Quote
bob westphal Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Hey, ingenuity is the basis of this hobby! Your idea is definitly different and shows individuallity. If you like it, use it. Don't worry about what the rest of think. Remember unusual things can grow on others to. Big Daddy Roth's Rat Fink caught on. Why can't your air cleaners? Bob P.S. I kinda like it but then again, I'm wierd! Quote
Brendan D25 Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 I once used a stainless steel frying pan with the handle removed for the top of the air cleaner on a 55 Ford, when polished it looked pretty good. Quote
Arthur1947 Posted November 4, 2006 Author Report Posted November 4, 2006 All of your opinions are valid. I don't want it to look like something I nabbed from my wife's kitchen but right now it does. I think a top cover like the original oil bath would be more suitable, although I think the oil bath looks like a pressure cooker. Round on the bottom flat on top might work best. I'm willing to throw out my ideas. Any more constructive critcism would be great. Best. ARTHUR Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Simply sat a hubcap on top of the air cleaner....just to make it look different. It's no real solution to anything. Click for pic: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/BobT3/Various%20Car%20Shows%20-%20Cruise-ins/100_1014.jpg There were some old MoPar air cleaners which were smaller than the P15 type, such as came on the old trucks with two carbs.
