Joe Flanagan Posted February 23, 2013 Report Posted February 23, 2013 Today I put my headliner bows in just to see which goes where. But I've got a couple of questions. At the front, there are some clips that look like maybe the front bow is supposed to hook into them. The problem is the front bow doesn't reach. I believe my original headliner had a wire in the front of it (and the back as well) could these clips have been where they hooked the wire?: There is also a tack strip at the front, just in front of the windshield. I know that gets covered by the garnish but my first question is how do those clips get used? I suppose it's possible I've got a bow in the wrong place and the front bow is supposed to clip into them. And my other question. Here is a picture of some tack strip between the rear window and the package tray: Most of it is missing. It stops right where the pen is pointing. It looks like it originally continued along beneath the rear window but I see no staple holes or anything like that. This is where it looks like it should go if it were in one piece: Does it continue as I've indicated? If so, it looks like it gets covered by the package tray. Can anyone tell me if that's correct? Finally, just a picture to show you how my windlace went in: Quote
RobertKB Posted February 23, 2013 Report Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) Joe, I believe the clip you show in the second picture is to hold the wire that goes from the wiring harness that runs down the driver's side to the switch on the door post between the passenger doors (B pillar) that works the reading lamp behind the rear seat. Just checked my '51 business coupe and the tack strip ends the same way as yours does in pictures 3 and 4. Must be how the factory did it. My headliner was out of the car when I got it so I'm not sure how the rest is held in place. Hopefully, someone will chime in and we can both learn from it. Edited February 23, 2013 by RobertKB Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 23, 2013 Author Report Posted February 23, 2013 I've got 3 clips at the front like that, all identical. Could they all be for wiring? The aren't like the ones at the side of the roof, which you can see in my last picture. Those are bendable by hand and you can open them and then close them tight. The ones I'm showing aren't like that. Much more stout. Quote
RobertKB Posted February 23, 2013 Report Posted February 23, 2013 Just checked again and my car also has three clips like that plus another one above the passenger door. I know they are for the wire going to the reading lamp switch as I just took the wiring harness out of the car a couple of months ago. Quote

Robert, my headliner was also missing when I got the car. But maybe the rear window garnish covers the area directly beneath the window and there is no headliner in that area at all. That might explain why the tack strips stop where they do. Quote

DJ194950 Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) You are correct just removed my interior recently in my 47 also.I concur with previous post about the front"clips" they are for wiring for door post light switch to the rear interior light when stock only had one switch for the pass. side at least for 50 models! Many it seems where added on to to include a second switch "idenical" switch on drivers side that took place of the stock hole for same, covered by the stock ID plate. If i can locate the pic, factory access. under dash lighting added a second switch on driver side, Instructions said to remove the factory ID plate that covered this hole on driver side and redrill holes to remount the ID plate lower. Any competetent mechanic could just order a second switch to make rear interior light up when either door is opened as i did, just because i never get in from the pass. side! These were all tied into the rear interior light or only wired to turn on access. underdash light only when driver door was opened, or both. Owners choice? I think i've found the instructions.
