Lakermatt Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 Well... I am pulling the motors out this weekend to get ready for the 440 swap in my 1956 Plymouth wagon. A lot of work, but worth it in the long run. I really don't want to mess with the rear end though. Will the original rear end work with this engine and trans swap? The trans will be a 727. I have a 2000 ford explorer disc brake setup that a guy wants to sell me, but I just don't know if that's going to work... Quote
Dave72dt Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 My first thought on the rear end holding up to a 440 is no. Triple the hp and torque, stand on the throttle ( what's the point of a 440 if you aren't going to) and expect it to stay together. I wouldn't but if you're just going to cruise with it, sure. Quote
Lakermatt Posted February 12, 2013 Author Report Posted February 12, 2013 That's all I am looking to do... Cruise!! Quote
wayfarer Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 ...no emergency brake..... Use the Ford... Quote
Thumbtack Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 Go with the ford. Stronger, easier to service, parts readily available... Matthew Quote
BeBop138 Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 Ditto on the Ford---better brakes,parts avaliable,easier to service---go with the disc brakes----you won`t regret it. Quote
dezeldoc Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 Yep the stocker will be toast in short order, as the others have said go with the ford much better. Quote
randroid Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) Matt, That's all I am looking to do... Cruise!! Yeah, right, sure, not a man here would doubt your word on that. More tea, Vicar? -Randy Edited February 12, 2013 by randroid Quote
