Converting 6 volt to 12 volt, what is the best alternator to get?

Asking to see if there is a common, good alternator people have used to convert a 6 volt system to a 12 volt system.

I used as Rick did, a 60 amp GM 1 wire delco alt. Some do not like thses, so far it is great...

I've been using a 3 wire GM 10si/internal regulator for 2years (4,ooo miles) with no problems

I'm running the 3 wire GM as well.  Easy to hook up and charges good.  If I need one while out on the road it is pretty

easy to find one.

Just curious....what does the white wire go to??

The white wire is for the Gen warning light.  I just taped it up in the harness.  The other wire is the voltage sensing wire.  Wired up this way you have to get the engine rpm's up to 1200 to start charging.  Once it starts though, it doesn't stop until you shut the engine off.

This is on my 1955 Fargo pickup, 251 engine, a remanufactured GM 1 wire alt from a local auto electric shop.

I found this bracket from JIMCO for my one wire alternator.  It cost about $20.
