ggdad1951 Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 I did a visual cm on the axle a few weeks ago and axle on left is moved forward about 2" on the spring . Compared it to right side. I will get to it. I don't want to get side tracked cause if I do I will not finish one thing or the other. At the moment I'm concentrating on the electrical and making sure it runs correctly and that it will not catch on fire. When I'm done with that I will concentrate on axle and brakes. Like I said I want have it done to make trip up north to bbq and trying hard. the axle and spring should have indexing between them. Generally the center rivet on the srping set should live in a hole on the axle if I remember correctly.... Quote

I once had the pin shear off and the differential housing shifted bending the shock and causing the car to "crab". Quote
Looznutz Posted January 17, 2013 Author Report Posted January 17, 2013 That is what um hoping for. It will be easier to fix. Quote
Looznutz Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 Cool truck! Bet it'll be more fun to drive when you get a tire, and don't have carry the passenger side anymore. lol 48D That is what I call 1 horsepower!!!! Quote
Looznutz Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 Very solid looking truck. Does the valve cutting tool you used have stones as the cutters? I have a similar tool that has cutting blades and they will not work on the hardned valve seats. Where did you buy that tool? Don did you ck out the link that I posted? Good tools and that is what the machine shops use. They don't do it by hand if you see in the link there is electric motor that you can buy. Quote

Looznutz Posted February 26, 2013 Author Report Posted February 26, 2013 (edited) Well I ordered some wire and supplies for my truck. They should arrive today. I will be fabricating the cab wiring harness and changing some windows. I will post pics as I go along. Can't believe only a month till bbq. Got hurry now. Edited February 26, 2013 by Looznutz Quote
MBF Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 (edited) I agree w Dodgeb4ya. Looking at the right side pic it appears that the right rear wheel is slightly turned to the right which could indicate a broken centerbolt, spring mount or too short a main leaf on the driver's side rear. That is one nice looking truck. I like your paint scheme on your rims-that's just what I did with mine. Mike Edited February 27, 2013 by MBFowler Quote

I know about the axle. I will ck on it after I finish my wiring. Quote
Looznutz Posted February 27, 2013 Author Report Posted February 27, 2013 (edited) Ok gents I will start on my wiring harness. The wires that I ordered from Rhode Island wiring service arrived today. After wrestling with my dog Tyson for the box I opened it and wow was I dumfounded. These are some really nice quality wires. Well I set up all that I needed tape measure, number markers, table, and dikes. I also graved a copy of a the harness from one of our sisters web site DPTECA. Ok I followed the list of wire colors and numbers and cut each wire to length and numbered it accordingly so I will not get confused when I put it together. Here are all the wires cut and labeled. Ok after the wires were cut and label the diagram gives you measurement as to were the tape will start and how much wire you should leave out. Notice I have not installed the connectors just yet. That will be done last once the harness is finished being taped and sleeve installed. Here is the semi finish product. Getting late so I will finish it tomorrow. I also made the turn signal wires for the aftermarket turn signal switch I will be installing as well. I have not decided just yet weather to integrate it to the harness or leave it as a stand alone harness, what do you guys think. Opinions accepted at this moment or lets take a poll. integrate or stand alone. I still need to do the other half of the harness as well as the tail light pig tails, but that is also included in the diagrams that the link has. It took me about 3 hours of work and some sore fingers(sausage fingers) but got it done. Tomorrow I will put tape and the plastic sheathing and it should be ready to install. I want to get it done Saturday and Sunday do a final tune up on the engine. Than I can get started on the rear axle and the brake conversion that I'm working on. The brake conversion will not get started on until after the BBQ. Oh yeah and the T-5 conversion as well. ">http:// ">http:// Edited February 27, 2013 by Looznutz Quote

Desotodav Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 Good job on the wiring harness Ed. Those diagrams for the truck wiring harness came from our member Allan Parkhurst. They came in most handy for me when I was restoring my 52 Desoto truck! I thank Allan again for making life a whole lot easier for myself and others during this process of the restoration phase.
