convert top fit issue with Electron?

Recommended Posts

Hello gents,

A local upholstery shop is having problems installing my new convertible top. It was srouced from "Electron top" known to be very reputable. Its clear to everyone that the top was made too big (perhaps wrong patterns where used). However the manufacture claims everything is correct. We just don't get it.

Anyone have experience with "Electron top"? we are all dumb founded.

Perhaps I should send it back and try another company? what are you experience with some of the other top manufactures? suggestions?

Thanks

Alex

I believe my son in law said Robbins is a good quality top.

Link to their site......http://www.robbinsautotopco.com/index.php

I think E Z On is another...........http://www.ezonauto.com/

Hydro-E-Lectric in Florida sells tops for older cars.....don't know what brand......but they seem

helpful when I've called them. http://www.hydroe.com/

Thanks for the feedback.

We sent them the photos. They tell told us the top is correct. They also think maybe my car has bows from a 53. we told them they are out of there mind.

Its kind of hard to tell but if you pull it tight does it go down past the chrome and actually cover the glass?

I wonder if the 49-52 Plymouth has the same width top as my 51 coronet?

As Per Bobs suggestions, if anyone can take measurements of what they have, I would very much appreciate it.

In my case the top goes past the chrome and covers the windows.

Unfortunately the companies suggested above by previous posts do not sell tops from the 50's. All other thoughts and suggestion still welcomed.

Thanks

Alex

Going past the chrome and covering glass it too much. I would expect the top to end in the middle of the chrome. I have a 51 mopar parts list that might show part #s to help with your comparison question.

I would bet the 49-51 dodge and plymouth should be the same.

Ed, Please be so kind as to mesure your fathers top. patitularly interested in the 2nd bow from the front. see attached picture.

The 49-52 Plymouth is narrower than the Dodge. I'd measure another Dodge, DeSoto, or Chrysler since they all used the same larger body. If Electron has a catalog, see what other cars use the same part number as the one they sent you.

Two issues. His top doesnt fit properly either. His has the opposite issue yours has and doesn't completely cover the bows. Also his car is stored for the winter already so its not available for measuring.

Ed,

Do you remember where you guys bought the top? Perhaps I can call them to discuss and compare notes.

Harold,

You are correct. 49-52 Plymouth convert is not the same as dodge. The catalog shows that the Dodge is the same with Desoto, & Chrysler.

Calling All Cars:

Anyone own a 49-45 Chrysler or Desto convert? Lookimh for measurements of the 2nd and 3rd bows (see the picture above)

Thanks

Alex

Hey Alex,

I have a 49 Chrysler convertible, but I don't have a top on it and it is misaligned. I can measure it for you if you think it would, but I won't be able to get to the car until after Thanksgiving.

I can try and see if Dad remembers but it was a long time ago. I think that top got put on in 1996 or maybe 97. I was still in high school :)
