Hi All,

Anyone have a spare radio (802) speaker they would part with. I assume that the 1946 to 1948 speakers are all the same sizer for the 802 radio.

It does not matter if it is ripped up in the cone as I will send it out to have it re-coned.

Thanks, James

James,

You can use a modern speaker if you don't have the original. Just find one the same size so it will fit under the dash mounts. If you can't get one to exactly line up with the mount you can make an adapter plate to do it. I believe GTK said a few years back that he switched his speaker a long time ago.

James,

I know your radio has the same speaker I do and that GTK does. The 802 model. I also know some people say you "have to have" that type of speaker to make the radio work. However, as mentioned GTK just spliced into the speaker wire and hooked up a modern type speaker and his radio worked. Maybe GTK can jump in here if he reads this thread, or send him a private message or email. (just remembered, he's probably at that POC meet they are holding this weekend, so may take him a few days to catch up.)

My 802 radio has never played since I bought the car. However, it does hum when you turn it on. On the bench I simply ran jumper wires from a modern speaker and pluged the ends of the jumper wires into the radio plug. Got the same hum, didn't change anything. Radio still didn't play music though. So you can use a modern speaker with the old 802 radio if you want to go that way.

I used a speaker from Shucks cost 12.00 dollars I used the old speaker to make the adapter. Just used the two cold wires. Works great, remember to shut of the flouresent lights.

Norm;

As Tim said the original speakers used an electromagnet that required a 6-volt power supply to energise the magnet. The modern speakers use a permanent magnet. Both speakers will work but there is a difference in the two.

I have a coupel do you want rebuildable or near mint?

by the way modeled my doors after yoru pics of the what??

Just a re-buildable one. I will send it in for a new cone. My dash as a lot of stuff under it and the permenant magnet speaker has a much larger depth to it and I would like to avoid that so I can get to things.

Just let me know Lou how much and where to send the money.

Thanks, James
