Dan Babb
What is technically correct color wise for the tailgate chains? I bought some new rubber sleeves for my chains, so figured I would freshen them up since I have to remove them anyway. Were they left unpainted or were they painted black or the matching bed color? Right now, mine are painted green (bed color).
Young Ed
Just a guess but I would say they were either cad plated or galvanized when new.
Scruffy49
The original chains are still on mine and where they haven't rusted up is the dull old lead gray of well aged cadmium. They'll be replaced with stainless steel as I only plan to resto-mod the truck once.
Desotodav
Most of the ones that I have seen here are a nice shade of rust brown. I went with stainless chains on my tailgate and covered them with a bike tube. Desotodav
