Today I drove the 48 about 5 miles around town and it quit running just as I got across some railroad tracks. Sure enough within 5 minutes a train came by. I opened the hood and gas was leaking from the carb. It is not the heat bypass because I eliminated that. After about 15 minutes it started back up and I made it home. The best I can tell is that it leaks around the accelerator pump linkage. Strange drove it 70 miles last week and no problem. I am open to any ideas. Thanks, Eric

Sounds like a misadjusted, or stuck float or debris around the needle and seat. Either or will cause the needle and seat to not stop the flow of fuel from the fuelpump, and allow he float bowl to over fill. this will cause flooding especial at idle speeds, and kill the engine. Sittin as you did allowed the raw gas pooled i the intake time to disapate. Pritty simple fix usually, disconect the fuel line at the carb, and them remove the brass nut housing the needle and seat assembly. Inspect it for dirt and or rust particles. If it is ok then remove the top of the carburetor, and check the float level. I usually set mine a bit below factory spec. While your in there you can check the float bowl for debris and rust, and get it out if present.

,,re;owners manual. pull the throttle all the way out..no choke and no pumping and start the car. ???

I haven't tried that method. It definitely has gas leaking when this happens. If I wait 15 minutes it starts right back up. I will pull the carb and try the cleaning others have suggested. The car isn't hot and itsn't boiling over like it did last summer. Thanks, Eric

Hi, my car is not street ready yet, but it does start and it does have this problem, we start it every few days and it stays idle for some minutes, can it be the same issue? it looks like the leakage is on the top, where is has a seal.

Thanks for your help!!

Could be the float bowl needle and seat, could also be a float that has a leak and is partially filled with fuel. If you take off the carb top and lift out the float, remove the float pivot pin, shake the float and see if there is liquid inside.
