Question on aftermarket fuel tanks

Wanted to know if anyone on here with a 1941-48 Dodge or Plymouth has purchased this particular fuel tank. My original is such a mess from the bad inside coating job that it will cost more to repair it than it would just to get this aftermarket tank. The rocks and paint remover idea didn't work that well. All the shops around here, that are willing to fix it, have to cut a square in it to be able to sandblast and remove the old coating from inside. When all is said and done....$270-$300, and that is without a new coating.

So this new tank from Tanks Inc. claims to fit right up in where the old one was, but hold two gallons less than the original. It's only $230. Has anyone purchased one of these? How do you like it?

Darrin..number of folks here have this tank and report it a successful exchange..it is only reported that the look of the tank is not as stock but actual fit is very good..do keep in mind that even with this new tank..your old sending unit will be transferred to it.

I was reading through a recent Street Rodder magazine last night and saw advertisements from a few fuel tank suppliers in the USA. I checked them out and found the following:

Yogi's Inc.( http://www.yogisinc.com/index.cfm ) list numerous fuel tanks amongst their stock - but only seem to list 1935-39 fuel tanks for Dodge.

Tanksinc ( http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/category_id=68/home_id=59/mode=cat/cat68.htm ) list your 41-48 Dodge and Plymouth fuel tank for $215 in steel. Looks like they also make the same tank in poly or stainless steel as well.

Rock Valley ( http://www.rockvalleyantiqueautoparts.com/catalog/gas_tanks_all.pdf ) list numerous stainless steel tanks for Mopar vehicles on pg. 14 and 15 of their catalogue.

Hope this info helps. It appears that there are many suppliers to consider for gas tanks over your way. If only we were so lucky here!!!

I got one from Tanks... only thing I had to do was modify the straps it came with, my stock ones were in bad shape.

I have a tanks, inc. fuel tank and I'm pretty sure I got it through yogi's. I used the stock straps and it went in without issue. I did have a hard time finding an orientation of the fuel sending unit where the float didn't hit either the side of the tank or the baffle but was able to make it work.

Well, I still have my straps, and they seem to be in pretty good shape. Are saying that the original ones will work on the new tank? I do have the one-wire fuel sending unit I got from JC Whitney. That should work in there, right?

Yes, I converted the old gauge over already. New gauge, old face plate over it.

sounds like it will be an easy install for you..unless someone was to lay on their back and look at it specifically..most likely only you will know it is not stock..well..along with everyone else here on the forum..
