karl head Posted June 26, 2012 Report Posted June 26, 2012 Hi everyone I have found an engine for my truck. I have a question regarding the serial number M-83290, I am wondering if this is a marine engine and if there are any differences between them and a standard truck/car engine Quote
greg g Posted June 26, 2012 Report Posted June 26, 2012 I believe this was discussed before and the M series started in 57/58 for all flathead auto installations regardless of brand. Should be a 230 if its a 23.5 inch block. Quote
karl head Posted June 26, 2012 Author Report Posted June 26, 2012 Thanks for the incite, I had tried looking it up and didn't find any info the engine is a 25 inch long block Karl Quote
55 Fargo Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Thanks for the incite, I had tried looking it up and didn't find any info the engine is a 25 inch long blockKarl Karl, all Canadian built Mopar flathead 6s were 25 inch blocks. Now this engine ID number could be the same years Greg mentioned, just the Canuck version. I do know there are some 23.5 inch blocks in Canada, most likely imported from the USA at some point, someone I know has one of these. Too bad you weren't closer, there isa 265 industrial, close by, sittin on a welder.... Quote

Maybe you got yourself a nice 251 or 265 there, can this engine be used without rebuilding? Quote
karl head Posted June 27, 2012 Author Report Posted June 27, 2012 I am hoping so but wont know for sure until its out and home I really hope its a bigger engine its out of a 48 two tonne. but its not stuck and I tested it for leaks so fingers are crossed. I may freshen it up with rings and bearings before installing it. the owner of the yard say he used it around the yard for a while years ago and drove it and parked it where it now sits . Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 On the subject of Canadian vs American engines I have a real oddball: a 225 cu in industrial engine! It uses the 25" long, DeSoto/Chrysler block with 3 7/16" bore. But with a 4 1/16 stroke crankshaft usually seen in Canadian Plymouth, 218 cu in, 3 3/8" bore engines with the same block. Now get this, the ID plate on the side identifies it as an industrial engine built in Chrysler's industrial engine plant in Michigan! I forget the name of the town but it isn't Detroit. So, it seems they made many different versions of industrial engines. Not surprising I guess, as they sold so many of them and most of the changes were easy and cheap to produce. Quote
