I brought the '39 dodge coupe home with no stock pedals, column, and bench. I was wondering if these items cross over into other years or are they '39 specific? The pedals seem to be a tight fit because of the x member so if I can't find any do you guys have any aftermarket suggestions? Thanks!

The clutch and brake pedals would be the bolt on style. The bolts on style were also uses for several years. I do know that the 38-39 Dodge/Desoto/Chrylser and Plymouth all used the same pedal pads.

The 39's all used a brown gas pedal and brown clucth and brake pedal pads. These are hard to find. Mostly you will find black as the replacement pedals.

Do some searching on ebay.

Also are you looking for a bench seat. This is going to be specific for the Dodge/Chrylser and Desoto for 39. These 3 all used the same body style so you might find something but this is going to be hard also.

I have a 39 Desoto so contact me.

Rich thanks for the info. I was afraid that the parts were for 39 only as I barely see anything for them while searching online. I think a hanging pedal will be the way to go, along with an aftermarket steering tube and wheel. I do need a bench and prefer to go with a stock unit or something from the same time frame/family of cars.

I'm looking into doing full discs on my 40 touring sedan, which isn't going to be too different from what you "should" have. Let me guess, your MC is right between the clutch and brake pedal, facing forward, right?...brake pedal just grazes the upper r/h side of the MC?

Can you take a pic of your set up if the floor board is out?

Posted

well thats the problem, I don't have any pedals, master, or floor boards as the previous owner hacked some late 70's early 80's pedals in when he did a 318 swap. The job was done so bad that everything was removed. Floor was a street sign pop rivited in for example...

The wagner Master Cylinder is an FE852

fits Chrysler 37-40

Desoto 37-40

Dodge 37-40

Plymouth 37-41

These are sometimes lsited on ebay but are getting harder to find.

I have a great deal of cross reference literature and parts cross references for the 39 Mopar. I have these all scanned onto cD's

Hey thanks for those pictures! That's just what I was wanting to see. Makes sense now seeing how the pedals and master are above the frame and not in it like a ford. I'm pretty sure I'll go with a hanging assembly.

Now to find a bench. On a coupe they were split and folded right? To allow the back passengers access.

Glad the pics helped-

Not having a coupe, I don't readily know if there was a back seat to be had...maybe. I did hear that the seat had a split for the spare tire access or for anythign else one could store behind the front seat.

As far as a bench goes you could search the local boneyards with a tape measurer in hand to find one that fits width wise...even a back seat could work for you if not being able to tilt the front seat isn't a problem.

Finding a decent front coupe seat may be a real challenge.

In my 38 Coupe, I am using a bench seat that was the 3rd row seat from a Chevy Surburban, fit perfect. It fits good even with the 5 speed I installed.

Early Ford Rangers have a bench seat that fits well also....

Should be pretty close to this if I remember correctly...anyone correct me if I'm wrong!

...a reminder, this is my 40 plymouth, but to just show you what to expect.

..wish I knew how to do the thumbnail pic thing

My 38 brake setup looks similar to your 40. I installed a 86 Dodge MC, and later a big Ford Master cylinder onto my stock pedal setup.

Hi,

I have the complete setup from a 1941 Plymouth including the master cylinder.

I also have the steering shaft/column and the steering gear box.

These should fit your car if you want to stay stock. (Not sure about the column, though)

Let me know if you are interested in them.

Not to sure on the one seat or two as the whole interior was gutted for ugly carpet and later model seats. As long as I can get something up front then I can tackle the back at a later date.

Do the suburban 3rd seats do they fold down? I'll need a way into the back area.

Also not to sure if there is any way of knowing if it was a business coupe or if it had a back seat as there are no plates I can find and no floors. Title from 1942 says:

Motor no. D11 - 1597

Nice -

-Which dodge MC and why did you switch to the ford MC?

-How close does that clutch pedal get to those lines when the clutch is in?

The Suburban seat does fold forward.
