FlyingDutchman Posted April 30, 2012 Report Posted April 30, 2012 Howdy! I just picked up this 1948 Dodge Sedan yesterday, one owner (in family new since 48), 55K. It was 'restored' about 9 years ago and than sat so it need some love. I'm primarily family with older Chevy stuff (60's era) and European models so I am sure I will have questions going forward here. My hope is to get it to at least driver condition and go from there. I was impressed with how complete the car was and how solid the frame was too! It does need a driver's side vent glass in the door and the rocker panel mouldings if anyone has those around? I would also like a NEW gas tank and possibly a NEW Stomberg for it as well if anyone has leads on that? Sorry the photos are kind of bunk, they are the ones the seller took. I'll have more once it arrives to my shop. Thanks Gang! -Joel V. Quote
greg g Posted April 30, 2012 Report Posted April 30, 2012 Welcome. the rocker mouldings are out there but hard to find ad pricey, especially complete pairs or Pass side. In the meat time I made some reasonable facsimilies using the plastic ranch moulding from the big box home improvmet store. Cut them shaped them painted them and afixed them with doulbe sided trim tape. The vent window is just flat glass. Any auto glass shop should be able to cut you another one either from patterns (if they are still around) or using the other side as a template. Don't forget to always use you parking brake when your car is left stationary. With the fluid drive set up there is no compression braking since the engine is not mechanically connected from the drive train. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 30, 2012 Report Posted April 30, 2012 (edited) Hi Joel. Welcome. Nice Dodge you got there. Ebay often has parts.....have gotten more expensive lately, but sometimes you just have to pay if that's the only source. Certain parts for these cars can still be purchased at the average auto supply store......carb rebuild kits, and other small items. Where are you located? There is a reference section you can get to from the forum headings that talks about both Plymouth and Dodge things. Link to the "links directory"...... http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/links/index.php Edited April 30, 2012 by BobT-47P15 Quote

Mark D Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 Hello from Central Massachusetts Joel! Love to see your car in person one of these days. It looks to be in great shape. There was a dodge for sale down here in Mass recently and it looked a lot like the car you've got there. Best of luck with it. I've had my plymouth for about a year now and it's been nothing but fun to work on and to tour with. The folks you'll find on this site are nothing but helpful when it comes to challenges. When you have time explore the search function and you'll find that a lot of the questions you'll have in the coming years already have answers provided. A couple of us on the site from Massachusetts are getting together on the 12th of May down in Hanover Mass to drink a couple beers and talk shop. Not sure if your car is healthy enough for the run, but you'd certainly be welcome with or without. This weekend I am meeting a couple of the New Yorkers in Rhinebeck at a car show on Sunday. So on top of the good advice you'll find there's some great people in here as well. Quote
yourpc48 Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 Hey. Welcome to the forum. Nice looking Dodge. I have an original Plymouth windwing glass but I dont know that it is the same as the Dodge sedan. The original glass for mine was a little thicker than what you normally find today. Still todays laminated glass is just fine. Its what I have in my car now. I dont know what he has right now but if you dont mind paying shipping from the west coast give "MOPAR Dave" Stromberg a buzz for those rocker mouldings. www.fatfenderedrelics.com I have a set for a P15 coupe but not your Dodge. Have fun with it. Quote
FlyingDutchman Posted May 3, 2012 Author Report Posted May 3, 2012 Hi guys (and hopefully some gals ), I've created a blog so I don't bombard the forum here with too much junk. For those that are interested you can follow my trials and tribulations as I journey into this D24. The only thing missing from the photos are beer bottles... http://projectdodge.blogspot.com/2012/05/project-1948-dodge-d-24-sedan-welcome.html Enjoy! -Joel V. Quote
