steveplym Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 I have the offy linkage on my car and it is a bit weak. Looking for some ideas on fabricating up my own linkage. I've done a search and seen a few examples. Anyone have pics of what you have done on your car? Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 I am using the "old" style George Asche setup. I understand his new setup does not use the same hardware. What I have works well. Quote
claybill Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 most seem to have rigged a swivel rod parallel to carbs, attached to a head bolt or something ,and swing each carb lever from it..lots of pics. bill Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 we fabricated my custom linkage from metalbars (cut our own threads on) and ball joints made for heavy R/C cars, cheap, strong and easy to handle. works great and is easily adjustable. please ignore the inscriptions, they were made for another thread. Don Coatney Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Fred; Interesting choke setup. Is the choke required to start your engine cold? I only use my choke to acheive high idle for a warm up after my engine starts cold. I pull the choke cable to close the butterflies with the engine runing around 1500 RPM's, I then take my foot off of the foot feed, and then return the choke cable to the open position thus opening the butterflies and setting the high idle cam. After a few minutes I tap the foot feed and this drops the cam and returnes the idle to the normal position. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Don, i pull the choke, start the engine and then push it right back. i have found it's easier this way and i only need about 1-2 turns until it fires. so i decided to keep it that way, especially for cold weather. i can still use hand throttle here because i kept the lower part of the linkage factory style. the setup looks a little goofy, but works great plus you don't see it when the filters are on. greg g Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 I fabricated mine from stuff of the hardware store shelves and some heim joints sourced from the local go kart shop, after having a look at Don's set up. It's not good looking but it works, and is adjustable in several locations. Quote
