Jim Saraceno Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 Okay guys, the time has finally come. The rebuild is done, the engine is in the car and I'm hooking up the linkages. It will be time to start her up for the first time. I primed the oil pump, turned the engine over until I got pressure on the oil gauge, set the valves cold and set the timing. Anyone have any last minute suggestions for things I should do or watch for before my first startup? Should I run it at high rpms for a while or just let it idle. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 If you have new lifters and cam..by all mean run her for at least 30 minutes at above 2000 to 2500 rpm..this is crucial...make sure you have the water in the rad, no leaks..during cam break in should you find a leak..and you can just add a tad of water as you let her run..do that..the cams first run should be uninterupted...monitor your temp and oil pressure..look for all signs of leakage..tweak the carb and stuff later...do not forget to to retorque your head.
