Upholstery

thats a very hard question to answer..depends on the very fabric you chosse for one, additional padding or complete swap out to modern foam if you had the ole straw/cotton batts, are you going to need spring repair and arching..then you have different levels of craftmanship and then on top of that, carpet quality/weave, vinyl fabric combinations of seat/panels locality plays an all important role in what the labor rate happens to be...most shops are very capable of a custom interior based on X-dollar fabrics based on low, middle or high end fabrics..most will quote you a ballpark and I have found that if you get it in writing..they honor it and usually come out about middle of the road of the low/high price for very good materials

It is hard to say in my case, because I had already replaced the seats, so no additional work was needed there. I purchased the door panel material from the shop, and cut all the panels out myself, as well as punching the holes for the stainless trim after I repaired and buffed it. I also bought the roof insulation (Thinsulate) and installed it, sanded & painted the roof bows, and installed new grommets. The estimate I got from the upholstery shop was around $900. I expect that figure to be a bit higher when all is done because there are bound to be a few additional items I either forgot or messed up on. I really expected the estimate to be much higher. The car should be finished by next week, so we'll see what the final bill turns out to be.

On my 48 Plymouth coupe just to do the front part of the back and the top of the seat itself ranged from one shop of $475 with 3 yards of materal. Took it to another shop that quoted me $275 to do all if I bring the seat in. This shop is a one man operation and has been in bussines for 30 years. I have seen some of his work and man he does a supper fine job so guess where I'm going.

One of the places that I have delt with on carpet and interior is stockinteriors.com they are pretty freindly people to deal with. They will send you some samples of what ever color you want to compare with the interior that is allready in the car or if you want to do it all. The only thing is that they do not make a headliner for my 48 Plymouth sedan. bummer. If you wish to contact them their number is 866-868-4577 or www.stockinteriors.com/install.asp. Just a thought.
