In the days before seat belts and roll bars stunt drivers would "dive for the cellar" in other words, at the last second drop to the floor, get under the dashboard as far as possible and brace their back against the dashboard. This was an old racing driver's trick.

Wait for the smashing and crashing to stop then when everything was quiet, wait a minute and crawl out of the wreck. That last bit was the tricky bit, sometimes everything gets quiet because you are flying thru the air so it pays to wait and be sure the wreck is over.

I believe the bottom car on which the Dodge is landing is a 1948 Chevy,

based on the vertical bar in center of the grille.

You are right Bob, A '48 Chev it is and possibly a convertible:eek:. The other looks like a Canadian bodied Dodge.

Bob, Dodge has always been on top of Chevy..now who in their right mind would allow a convertible in a demo-derby..I do believe that would have been a no no from the go go

ah but I do have fond memories of watching the ole figure 8 races..odd were there was a T-bone every race..and of dirt track racing..I remember well the one car that had a steering failure on the back straight away..road curved..he did not..the bank blocked the actual view of the landing but the dust plummage did tell the story..other than a Gran Prix in person..I could care less to watch any race these days..
