claybill Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 things are aso simple when you explain it...but then try it and the smallest things create questions......So....i am spinning the rear wheel on the jack and counting the driveshaft revolutions...i get 2.00005 shaft turns to 1 tire revolution. that's not right...is it necessary to have BOTH rear wheels off the ground to do this test..? (making it 4.1 to 1 ) claybill Quote
Merle Coggins Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 Yes. The differential action through the side and spider gears changes the ratio. You need to turn both wheels together. I would venture a guess that you do have a 4.10 gear if you got 2:1 with spinning one wheel. (half the gear reduction with half the tires spinning) Merle Quote
claybill Posted April 22, 2007 Author Report Posted April 22, 2007 thanks merle. i kind of thought that ...now, if i put into overdrive...and test it again........will the OD ratio show up, as the trany is in neutral, or would i expect to get the same 2.1 with one wheel of the ground as well.(4.1) ? bill Quote
greg g Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 The gear will make no difference on the rear end. Quote
