Young Ed Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 When I needed new cables for my car Napa had them in stock. 1 gauge. I don't think they were particularly expensive although more than 12v stuff. Quote
jeff0547 Posted March 8, 2012 Author Report Posted March 8, 2012 I thought that I would post a little video to let you see the car running. This is my first video, so go easy on me. Quote
jeff0547 Posted March 12, 2012 Author Report Posted March 12, 2012 The good news is that my HORN works. I'm still having trouble re-starting my wagon after it's run, without pouring gas in the carb. The confusion / question is, How the heck do you turn on the wipers???? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) Well......if it has vacuum wipers, they won't work without the engine running -- even if you find the switch. If electric, they should work from battery power. The switch on older models is on top of the dash. But......I don't know which kind your vehicle has. Will leave it to more knowledgeable folks to answer that. After posting the above, I went to the Allpar site.......found an article by Jim Benjaminson that said: Plymouth buyers finally got electric windshield wipers as standard equipment, something the other Chrysler lines had for many years That was for 1951. Just where the switch is.....I can't tell............51 and 52 dashes are similar. Edited March 12, 2012 by BobT-47P15 Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 In another article............. Bill Watson wrote: for the 1949 to 1952 U.S.-built Plymouths (P-17, P-18, P-19, P-20, P-22, P-23) •Spark plug gap - .035" •Breaker gap - .020" •Initial ignition timing - T.D.C. •Dwell setting - 34.5 deg. to 38 deg. •Firing Order - 1-5-3-6-2-4 Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Another 52 Plymouth dash picture, different view. Looks like wiper knob on top. Quote
jeff0547 Posted March 13, 2012 Author Report Posted March 13, 2012 Thanks for all the info, Bob. I did find the knob on top of the dash. Well, not really a knob, just a tiny post with a trim ring smaller than a dime. Knob is MIA. Didn't start it today, so I still don't know if they work. Probably doesn't matter, right now. Both sides of the windshield are smashed. As a matter of fact, all of the glass should be replaced, at some time. A job for the future.... Quote
Young Ed Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 For testing you should be able to pop a knob off the radio and try that(if you have a radio....) Quote
Labrauer Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) First of all welcome to the fourm here, there are a lot of nice and wise people that can just about tell you anything you want to know about these old Plymouth's. I have two 48 Plymouth's one's a two door coupe and the other is a four door sedan. I had a hard time getting them both to start checked the fuel pump and no gas so as you I primed the carb and fired right off but after it set for an hour or two back to priming the carb again. I finilly bought a one way valve to put into the gas line for around $9 including shipping and now all I have to do is pump gas pedal twice and she'll fire right up. I also had a 52 Ford pickup with the same problem so I put an electric fuel pump on it but untill I installed the one way valve it did the same thing. Just my two cents worth that happened to me. Labrauer Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) Jeff I got the one way gas/diesel valve from autospares of comber their address is 33-37 mill street, comber, co down bt23-5eg united kindom. Their customer service line is 02891871199 and their e-mail address is ascomber@btconnect.com. Mine was a 5/16th fuel hose one way valve part # 360144846523 and only took a week to get to me. I paid with shipping and all $8.90. they worked really well with my 48 Plymouth coupe, 48 Plymouth sedan and the old 52 Ford pickup which on the pickup I had installed an electric fuel pump also but it didn't seem to work right untill I put the valve in. Anyway I hope this will solve your problem. I also placed the valve as closed to the carb as possible which was right before the fuel pump and now all I do is pump the foot feeder (gas pedal) twice and engine kicks right off every time. Good luck and welcome to the forum. Larry Edited March 15, 2012 by Labrauer Quote
jeff0547 Posted March 16, 2012 Author Report Posted March 16, 2012 Thanks Larry. I found one from Autospares on e-Bay (not an auction.). It runs $9 including shipping. I'll try to order it tomorrow. Quote
Labrauer Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 I hope this will work for you I know the ones that I put on the two cars and truck did the trick for me. Larry Quote
jeff0547 Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 I had to re- start my Pay Pal account, but the one way gas/diesel valve from autospares has been ordered and on its way. My wife & I have 5 empty, unpainted, dirty rentals, so she said,"EVERY day is a work day until we get 'em all rented!" So, wish me luck. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Well, good luck on that! See you later when you come up for air. Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) Jeff I feel your pain I have rentals too. No money comes in when they are empty. I used to try to do everything, now I hire help whenever possible, it pays off! Get the work done quicker, Less down time, more rent time $$$$ and what you pay out is deductible business expense. My policy is the house has to be clean and in good repair, and the rent priced on the low side. Then you can be choosy and pick a nice tenant with good references. Nice tenants take care of the place, pay the rent and do not leave you holding the bag for back rent. If you are not getting lots of good applicants to pick from, lower the rent a bit. Even $25 or $50 can make a difference, everyone is a hanging judge of rent! I know it seems like a lot of extra work but when you get a good tenant who stays for years it pays!!!
